In the mist‑shrouded woods, two women stood face‑to‑face amid fallen logs and fern‑covered earth. The one on the left wore a weathered camouflage uniform with an American flag patch and a name tag that read “Adele.” Fresh red scratches marked her cheek, and her eyes burned with fierce determination. She gripped the arm of the woman opposite her—a slender figure in a tattered brown dress, her own face scarred by the same brutal lines, hair tangled with twigs.

Adele had been on a covert mission deep in the forest when she stumbled upon the stranger, who seemed lost and haunted. Instead of turning away, Adele chose to protect her, holding the woman’s arm to steady her and whispering a promise of safety through the tense silence of the trees. The forest seemed to hold its breath as the two wounded souls locked eyes, sharing an unspoken pact to survive whatever danger lurked beyond the green canopy.

The moment stretched like the thin branches overhead, binding the soldier’s discipline with the civilian’s fragile hope, both women ready to face whatever lay ahead together in the wild unknown.
The bond between the two women in the forest is raw and instant, forged by shared pain and an urgent need for protection. The soldier, hardened by her uniform and mission, sees the wounded stranger not as an enemy but as someone who needs her strength. She grips the other’s arm, a gesture that mixes restraint with reassurance, signaling “I’ve got you” in the middle of danger.

The civilian, bruised and disoriented, leans into that grip, accepting the soldier’s authority and care. Their eye‑contact is intense—each reads the other's scars, both physical and emotional, and recognizes a silent promise: to help each other survive the unseen threat lurking among the trees. The relationship shifts from stranger‑to‑stranger to a fleeting alliance built on mutual vulnerability and the instinct to protect.

The soldier's protective instinct stems from a mix of duty and empathy. Adele's training kicks in the moment she sees the stranger's vulnerability—she’s conditioned to safeguard those in danger. But there's more: the civilian’s scars mirror her own hidden wounds, reminding her of the fragility of safety and trust. By shielding this woman, Adele momentarily shelters a part of herself she thought she'd lost in the chaos of war.

Her grip on the other’s arm is both a tactical move and a reflexive attempt to anchor herself to humanity amid the forest’s brutality. In protecting the stranger, she claves to a sense of purpose beyond her mission—to ensure someone else’s survival, even if it costs her own. The act is selfless yet selfish, a way to outrun the ghosts chasing her.

In that wooded standoff, the dynamic evolves into a partnership where the soldier offers tactical safety and the civilian offers trust and a reason to fight for another life beyond the mission. Their connection is defined by urgency, empathy, and the unspoken agreement that they’ll face whatever comes next together.
