Hidden beneath the Arctic ice swims one of Earth’s greatest mysteries—the Greenland shark. Some are more than 400 years old, meaning they were alive before many modern nations even existed. They grow so slowly that they may not reach adulthood until around 150 years of age. Despite often losing their eyesight to parasites, these ancient predators continue to survive in the freezing darkness, hunting fish, seals, and other marine life.
