In a move that could bring significant relief to taxpayers in India, a parliamentary panel has proposed that the Union Finance Ministry allow individuals with income below the minimum exemption limit to file Income Tax Returns (ITR) for claiming refunds on Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), even if they miss the usual deadline of July 31, without facing any penalties.

Fake E-Challan Alert

Fake e-challan messages are being sent on WhatsApp with lines like “account cleared with one click.” They look like they're from traffic officers and sometimes even have your vehicle details.

These messages have a link to a .APK file. If you download it, hackers can get full access to your phone and steal bank info, OTPs, photos, and more.

Don’t click any link. Always check challans on official sites.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has directed all toll collection agencies and concessionaires to immediately report instances of “loose” or “tag-in-hand” FASTags. These are FASTags not fixed to vehicle windscreens and often handed over at toll booths practices that disrupt the electronic toll collection system. Upon receiving reports, NHAI will initiate blacklisting or hotlisting of such FASTags via a newly dedicated email ID. ⁣

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified that there has been no change in the rules for updating the voter list in Bihar. This clarification comes after growing concerns that new rules might prevent many people especially migrant workers and those without documents from getting their names included in the electoral roll.

The Commission has assured that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is being conducted under the same guidelines issued on June 24, 2024, and that the existing process for including or correcting voter names remains the same.

From today, automated number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at all 200 petrol and diesel stations will scan vehicle plates against the VAHAN database. If the vehicle is unfit or lacks a valid pollution under control certificate, it will be denied fuel. Diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old will not be refueled. The move aims to keep polluting vehicles off the road. The ban applied across Delhi NCR city Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad.
