Chinese firms have spent past decade developing cutting-edge technology to produce bigger, thinner wafers that have played a big part in reducing cost of solar power by more than 90%. If foreign manufacturers have to use older wafers, it will diminish cost competitiveness of their panels as per Cosimo Ries of Trivium China.

So China is planning to restrict export of technology and manufacturing lines to countries trying to have their own Solar manufacturing hubs. India has to focus more on R&D than imposing import duties which would temporarily stop Chinese companies.

China’s Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Science and Technology are seeking public comment on adding some manufacturing methods key to producing advanced solar wafers on to its list of technologies it prohibits exporting.

Based on industry feedback and situation persisting for >3 yrs, Chandrashekhar Mishra, our Publisher had filed a petition in OERC during July 2022 with Energy Dept, DISCOMs, GRIDCO & OREDA as respondents to streamline Solar Net-metering & Subsidy disbursement.

Subsequent to the 1st hearing on 03.08.22, our Publisher had filed a rejoinder requesting Honorable Commission of OERC to implead some of the Solar consumers, vendors and industry bodies etc. to hear their views.

After 2nd hearing on 16.08.22 & listening to challenges even faced by GRIDCO in accounting Roof-top Solar units in it's RPO & OREDA to get net-metering on time; Hon'ble Commission has decided for a Suo Moto petition.

After hearing on 15.11.22 of this suomoto petition by OERC, there is a consensus among stakeholders about SoP which is prepared by Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency-OREDA to be deliberated in next hearings to finalise it for development of industry in .

In 3rd hearing on 29.11.22 of this suomoto petition by OERC, hardly any stakeholders participated except OREDA which has submitted a revised SoP of Net, Gross and Virtual Metering.

In 4th hearing on 13.12.22, OERC instructed OREDA to give detailing on all aspects of Net, Gross & Virtual metering. Our Publisher requested OERC to ask T P W O D L - A Tata Power and Odisha Government Joint Venture to present how they are doing net metering in a month for other DISCOMs to adopt.

In 5th hearing on 20.12.22, there was a PPT from TPWODL on prevailing practice of Solar Net-metering they are doing in 15 working days. Our Publisher presented recent Office Memorandum of MNRE regarding penalty for delayed Net-metering to be revoked by OERC.

TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited has requested OERC to also allow 2kW and above capacity under Net metering instead of 5kW and above. TP Sodl mentioned would go by TPWODL process. But there was no response from T P C O D L - A Tata Power and Odisha Government Joint Venture which holds key for promotion of residential Solar projects.

With this earnest efforts we look forward to an SoP which would be win-win for all stakeholders and would bring in Odisha in true sense. CMO Odisha Invest Odisha

Rs.2 per unit Solar Post Covid is a big surprise. A ray of hope for in India. But is it sustainable or dependent on Cheaper Imports and Cheapest Foreign Funding! Then how bid only 1 Paisa more? Interesting days ahead for Mega Solar Projects 👍

Aljomaih Energy & Water Company, a private company based out of Saudi Arabia, has bid the lowest of ₹2 a unit for setting up a solar power generation project.

This new lowest tariff has also been quoted by Green Infra Wind Energy Limited (GIWEL). This company is promoted and owned by Sembcorp Green Infra Limited (SGIL), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Energy India Limited (SEIL). It a part of Singapore-headquartered Sembcorp Industries. Sembcorp also holds the record for quoting the lowest wind energy tariff in the country at ₹2.44 a unit.

Aljomaih Energy & Water Company has bid for setting up a 200-MW solar power project at this tariff while Sembcorp has bid for setting up a 400-MW generation capacity.

The next lowest bid in this tender has come from NTPC Limited that has quoted ₹ 2.01 a unit for setting up a 600 MW generation capacity.

In all, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) wanted to bid out 1,070 MW of solar power generation capacity from domestic and foreign project developers. These Grid-Connected Solar PV Power projects are to be set up in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (RUVNL) shall be the Buying Entity for power generated from these projects.

The new bids are significantly lesser than the previously record low tariffs discovered in SECI bid rounds earlier this year. The previous record low solar bid stood at ₹2.36 a unit. It was quoted by Spain-based Solarpack to set up a 300-MW generation capacity during an SECI tender in June 2020.
