The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced penalties for households, commercial establishments, and institutions if they find potential sources of dengue mosquito breeding or larvae on their premises. Individual households will face a fine of Rs 1,000, while commercial establishments and institutions will face a penalty of Rs 5,000. The BMC is taking measures to mitigate dengue risks, such as surveillance, fogging, and spraying larvae oil. However, active public participation is crucial to achieve these measures. The BMC urges citizens to inspect their homes, offices, and nearby areas to identify breeding points and empty them if found with stagnated water. At least two people have died from dengue in Bhubaneswar this year, with 427 positive cases out of 924 samples tested.
