Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district, a renowned breeding site for tigers, has experienced a significant decline in big cats in recent years. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has declared Similipal the best place for tiger breeding in the country, spending Rs 12-13 crore annually for the protection of big cats. Both the State and Union governments have spent over Rs 100 crore in the last 12 years to increase the population of tigers. However, the number of big cats has dwindled considerably in the reserve. Environmentalists and animal lovers in the state have expressed concern over the decline. Former honorary wildlife conservator Bhanumitra Acharya suggests that the government should not allow Similipal Tiger Reserve to be a tourist spot to increase the number of big cats. Field Director Prakash Chand Gogineni has tightened the intelligence network to stop disturbances and plans to form a Joint Task Force to stop poaching. Meanwhile, no steps have been taken for the protection of tigers at Sunabeda tiger project in Nuapada district.

A police complaint has been filed against 26 opposition parties in Delhi for improper use of the name 'India' for undue influence and personation during elections. Avinish Mishra, a Delhi resident, alleges that these parties, including Congress, TMC, DMK, NCP, PDP, and RLD, have exploited the name for political advantage, potentially misleading voters, and compromising the electoral process. Mishra argues that the parties have violated Section 3 of the Emblems Act and are liable for punishment under Section 5. Mishra believes that the alliance's choice to name 'India' has hurt the sentiments of Indians who identify as citizens of 'India' and may disturb public order, peace, and tranquility. The Barakhamba Police Station is investigating the complaint.
