In a social media post, Azad condemned the attack, describing it as an attempt to undermine democracy and the rights of marginalized communities. “During my public meeting in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, ABVP goons launched a well-planned and violent attack. A group of around 250 individuals pelted stones, spread chaos, assaulted our workers, and damaged several vehicles. This is not just an attack on me but a conspiracy to silence the voices of democracy, the Constitution, and social justice,” he wrote.
Azad further alleged that the attack was carried out by forces linked to the Sangh Parivar, who, according to him, operate with the backing of those in power. He asserted, “This incident clearly proves that Sangh Parivar organizations receive open support from the ruling establishment. These are the same forces that resort to violence and hooliganism to suppress every voice raised for the Bahujan movement, Dalit-backward society, and constitutional rights. But let it be clear—we will not be intimidated, and we will not bow down!”
The MP from Nagina has urged the Odisha chief minister and the director general of police to take immediate action and arrest all those involved in the attack. “I call upon and to ensure the immediate arrest of those responsible and to take strict legal action against them,” Azad wrote, reaffirming that the fight for social justice would persist despite the violence. Following the attack, he met with his supporters and reiterated their unwavering commitment to protecting democracy and the Constitution. “Our struggle is to safeguard the Constitution and democracy, and we will continue it at any cost. Those who believe they can silence us with violence should know this—our journey will not stop!” he declared.
During his speech in Bhubaneswar, Azad also highlighted the discrimination faced by Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities in Odisha, particularly in the state’s reservation policies. “The OBC community should receive 27 percent reservation, yet only 11.25 percent is being granted. Meanwhile, the general category, which comprises just 6 percent of the population, is being given 10 percent reservation. I demand an explanation from the government—why does this discrimination persist?” he questioned.
