Maharaja Raghuraj Singh Judev of Rewa in 1877.
Maharaja Raghuraj Singh of Rewa (r.1854–1880), born in 1823, lived a spirited and eventful life. He assumed administration of the state in 1843 from his father, Bishnath Singh. During the 1857 uprising, he supported the British by helping suppress revolts in nearby districts such as Mandla, Jabalpur, and Nagod (now part of Satna district). In return, the British rewarded him by restoring the Sohagpur (Shahdol) and Amarkantak parganas, which had earlier been seized by the Marathas. Raghuraj Singh suffered from leprosy and often wore gloves to conceal his illness. He passed away on February 5, 1880.
