Wishing you all a Happy Independence Day 🇮🇳
Cultural & appetising -
Straight from the heart of Kandhamal!
Steaming Usuna Bhata meets the aromatic Macha Haladi Paani — a golden turmeric fish curry slow-cooked with tribal spices, paired with the earthy Karadi Patalghanta chutney. All served fresh on a banana leaf, just like tradition intended.
🍃 One plate, centuries of flavour.
🇮🇳 “From Kandhamal’s heart to the nation’s soul”
In the quiet hills of Phulbani, a woman named “Champa Devi” chose a path far from comfort and safety.Born in Odisha’s Ganjam district in 1903, she faced personal loss early in life, but instead of retreating, she stood up for a cause larger than herself — India’s freedom. She joined the Salt Satyagraha, fearlessly led movements during the Quit India call in 1942, and endured imprisonment for months. But her fight didn’t end with independence — she dedicated her life to serving orphans, building homes for the helpless in Balasore, Berhampur, and finally in Kandhamal’s tribal heartland. Her golden spirit still lives on in the Gapabandhu Balashram, the orphanage she founded in Kendupadara, Phulbani — a sanctuary built from her sacrifices, even giving away her last ornaments for the cause.
On this 79th Independence Day, we remember not just the famous names, but the unsung warriors like Champa Devi, who wove their courage into the very fabric of our nation’s freedom.
are saluting our freedom fighters for their bravery and courage, JAI HIND 🇮🇳
