RBI to issue new batch of Rs 20 currency notesReserve Bank of India is set to release currency notes of denomination Rs 20 under the Mahatma Gandhi series-2005. The new notes will be released with the inset letter 'S' in both the number panels.

Another change that will be seen in the new currency notes will also carry the signature of RBI Governor Urjit Patel, which the older Rs 20 notes did not have.
The design of the new notes will not be changed in anyway and will remain the same as the ones released in September 2016 with the inset letter 'R'.

The older Rs 20 notes in circulation will continue to be legal tender.

An image of a note of Rs 200 denomination was being widely shared on social media earlier this month, even though no official confirmation about its authenticity came from the responsible authorities. Reports suggest that the printing process had begun and the central banks would soon issue the new notes.

The RBI reportedly intends to issue the Rs 200 notes to make daily transactions easier for people.

Last month, the RBI introduced a new series of the recently introduced Rs 500 notes.

"In continuation of issuing of Rs 500 denomination banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (new) series from time to time which are currently legal tender, a new batch of banknotes with inset letter "A" in both the number panels, bearing the signature of Dr Urjit R. Patel Governor, Reserve Bank of India; with the year of printing "2017" on the reverse, are being issued," the central bank said in a statement.

Kovind vs Meira: Presidential election sees near 100% voting

Lawmakers across India voted on Monday to elect the country's 14th President in a contest in which the ruling NDA's candidate Ram Nath Kovind has an overwhelming edge over opposition-backed Meira Kumar.

The election saw 99.61 per cent voting of parliamentarians, with Lok Sabha Secretary General and Returning Officer for the presidential election Anoop Mishra on Monday terming it "probably the highest turnout ever (in presidential poll)".

Mishra informed that a total of 771 MPs and five MLAs were supposed to vote in Parliament House. Of these, 768 MPs and four MLAs voted here.

"Out of total of 771 Members of Parliament entitled to vote (04 vacant and 01 disqualified), 768 cast their votes, i.e. 99.61 per cent. Likewise out of total 4,109 Members of the Legislative Assemblies entitled to vote (10 vacant and 01 disqualified), 4,083 cast their votes, i.e. 99.37 per cent," according to an official statement.

BJP chief Amit Shah, who is an MLA from Gujarat, was among those who sought permission to vote in Delhi.

The MPs who did not cast their vote were Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal, BJD's Rama Chandra Hansdah and Anbumani Ramadoss of PMK.

He said the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have two vacancies each, while BJP MP Chedi Paswan did not have voting rights.

Mishra said 54 MPs had sought permission to vote in state capitals.

He said that 10 states -- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhgand, Nagaland and Uttarakhand, and Union Territory of Puducherry -- recorded 100 per cent voting, and added that the rest of the states also recorded "almost 100 per cent" voting.

He termed it "probably the highest percentage of votes polled ever (in presidential poll)" and attributed it to enthusiasm among the electors.

He said the final figures from four states -- Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur and Tripura -- were still awaited.

CM Devendra Fadnavis appeals to farmers to repay current loans to maintain the banking system

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appealed farmers to repay loan to maintain the banking system. In his talk show, ‘Mi Mukhymantri Boltoy’ (CM is speaking), Fadnavis said that the banks are relying on repayment and farmers who repay regularly, will be given extra benefits of various government schemes in addition to the encouragement subsidy under the loan waiver scheme.

In a reply to the question whether loan would be available for sowing again asked by Manik Chaphekar, farmer from Nagpur, the chief minister said, “The banking system survives on those who regularly repay their debt. Many people expect that the loan waiver would be up to 2017. Hence they have not repaid loan in spite of their capacity to do so.” He added, “I request to such farmers to pay their loans regularly. The banking system is in place relying on them. Even Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would not allow changing the last date of the waiver, June 30, 2016.”
