Calcutta High Court directs Centre to resume MGNREGA work from August 1 in West Bengal

The court said the scheme of the Act does not envisage a situation where it would be put to cold storage for eternity

The Calcutta High Court has directed the prospective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme in the state of West Bengal, from 1st August 2025, after an almost three-year hiatus over allegations of embezzlement.

A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Chaitali Chatterjee (Das) was hearing a continuing matter on the non-payment of dues to daily wage labourers under the MGNREGA scheme over allegations by the central government of embezzlement of funds.

In directing the implementation of the scheme, the Chief Justice orally remarked, "All these allegations are from before 2022, you do whatever you want, but implement the scheme."

यर्थात यस प्रकारको कार्य लंकापारा शाखा गाँउले हरूले धेरैं बर्ष अघि देखि सुरू गरेका थिएँ जाे आइले समा संचालित गराउनुमा सक्क्षम भई राखेकाे छन् भने अहिले सम्म लंकापारा शाखा अंतराल पग्ली खास, डी बी लाइन (घुम्ती), डी के लाइन र पी एम लाइन गाउँ निवासी जुट्न सकेको छन्।

दलमोर गरुबस्ती गम्टु रोडमा केहि छिनको अन्तरालमा दुई ठाउँ सडक दुर्घटना।

एक ठाउँमा जंगलको बिचबिच सडकको क्षतिग्रस्त भागलाई तर्काएर जाने क्रममा कार अनियन्त्रित भई जंगलमा पसेको छ भाग्यवश कारमा मात्र सानु क्षति भएकाे बताएकाे छ भने एकातिर मक्रापाड़ा नजीकै दलमोर गरुबस्तिको ४ नम्बर टर्निङमा एउटा भयानक सडक दुर्घटना घटेको छ। स्रोतका अनुसार, मादक पदार्थ सेवन गरी मक्रापाड़ा बजारबाट फर्किरहेका एक मोटरसाइकल चालकले नियन्त्रण गुमाएपछि विपरीत दिशाबाट आउँदै गरेको स्विफ्ट कारसँग ठोक्किए। चालक गम्भीर घाइते भए र स्थानीय बासिन्दाको सहयोगमा उनलाई बीरपारा जनरल अस्पताल लगिएको बताएकाे छ।

A helicopter crashed near the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand early Sunday (June 15, 2025), killing all seven on board.

The helicopter was flying from Kedarnath to Guptkashi; seven on board, including a 10-year-old, have been confirmed dead by Badri-Kedar Temple committee chief.

Yajik Hillang secured 1st position in the Women's Model Physique up to 155 cm event. Yajik hails from Arunachal Pradesh.

Organised by the South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, the competition has witnessed participation from several South Asian nations, and it is also recognised by the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF).
