Hiranya Hazarika from Assam Successfully Completes World Bank’s Max Thabiso Edkins Climate Ambassador Program
Biswanath, Assam: In a moment of pride for Assam and the entire Northeast, Hiranya Hazarika, a dedicated research scholar and climate advocate from Bedeti, Biswanath, has successfully completed the prestigious Max Thabiso Edkins Climate Ambassador Program conducted by the World Bank Group.
Selected from among youth leaders across more than 180 countries, Hiranya engaged in intensive weekly sessions from March 8 to November 8, 2024, participating in powerful dialogues and mentorships with global climate experts. The program, aimed at equipping young changemakers with tools to address climate challenges, demanded discipline, dedication, and deep commitment—all of which Hiranya fulfilled with resilience.
Presently a Research Scholar at Delhi, Hiranya also serves as the Vice President of the All Assam Research Scholars Association (AARSA). In addition, he is a Trustee of the Lakkhi Foundation, an organization caring for the beloved baby rhino at the Assam State Zoo, “Lakkhi,” named by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Hiranya is the proud son of Ramesh Hazarika and Lakhi Hazarika of Bedeti, and he acknowledges his family and mentors for supporting his journey. Speaking on the experience, he said, “This journey was not easy, but it was deeply rewarding. Balancing research and this global fellowship was a challenge I’m grateful to have undertaken. I dedicate this success to my parents and all my well-wishers who stood by me.”
As a young voice from Assam on the global climate stage, Hiranya’s achievement marks an inspiring chapter—not just for him, but for every student and youth from the region aspiring to make a difference in the world.
