The 80th Independence Cup Football Tournament, organized by the All Bichom District Studentsโ Union (ABDSU), concluded on August 15, 2026, at the Shungji Ground in Nafra.
In a high-stakes final match, the Siphiyang Welfare Association (SWA) defeated Khazalang Lapusa West Sachung (KLWS) 2โ0 to claim the coveted championship title. Beyond the athletic rivalry, the tournament served as a vital platform for youth development, rallying the community around the inspiring banner: "Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports."

Dignitaries present: The closing ceremony was graced by Shri Dongru Siongju, Honorable MLA (7th Bomdila ST AC) and Advisor to the Minister for Tax, Excise & Narcotics, who attended as Chief Guest. Shri Tom Ratan, Deputy Commissioner of Bichom District, attended as Guest of Honour. The event was also witnessed by heads of departments, regional leaders, and enthusiastic sports supporters.
Opening Remarks: The formal program opened with a welcome address by Shri Amar Yame, Assistant Literary Secretary of ABDSU.
Memorandum Submission: Shri Gelong Besai, President of ABDSU, formally submitted a representation memorandum to the Chief Guest on behalf of the student union.
Cultural Performance: Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Nafra, performed a traditional dance showcasing the rich heritage of the region.
Keynote Addresses: Chief Guest Shri Dongru Siongju commended ABDSU for organizing a successful event that actively directs youth energy toward constructive endeavors. Highlighting the critical campaign against substance abuse, he urged the union to maintain these initiatives and assured full support toward fulfilling the demands outlined in the submitted memorandum. Guest of Honour Shri Tom Ratan also congratulated the organizers for fostering unity and healthy living through sports.
