LJP Celebrates Birth Anniversary of Ram Vilas Paswan at Buddha Park, Bomdila

Bomdila, West Kameng | July 5, 2025 โ€” The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) organized a solemn and vibrant celebration at Buddha Park in Bomdila, West Kameng district, to commemorate the birth anniversary of its revered founder, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan.

The event witnessed the presence of State LJP President Riba Pangia, Youth Wing President Nikon Sangchoju, and several dedicated state and district-level party workers. The gathering paid homage to the late leaderโ€™s enduring legacy and his significant contributions to Indian politics and social justice.

Addressing the gathering, State President Riba Pangia recalled Paswanโ€™s towering political journey. โ€œRam Vilas Paswan was a stalwart leader from Bihar who dedicated his life to the upliftment of marginalized communities. He served as the Union Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution during the first and second Modi ministries. A nine-time Member of the Lok Sabha and two-time Rajya Sabha MP, he was the voice of the common man,โ€ Pangia said.

He also highlighted Paswanโ€™s early political activism. โ€œHe began his career with the Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. Later, he joined the Lok Dal in 1974 as its General Secretary. During the Emergency, he stood for democratic values and was imprisoned for his beliefs. In 1977, he entered the Lok Sabha from Hajipur as a Janata Party candidate, marking the beginning of a long and impactful parliamentary journey.โ€

Itanagar | June 25, 2025:
The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has strongly condemned the Bharatiya Janata Partyโ€™s (BJP) โ€˜Black Dayโ€™ protest held in Arunachal Pradesh today, branding it a cynical ploy to divert attention from the BJP's own systematic and ongoing attack on Indiaโ€™s democratic institutions.
In a scathing statement, the APCC said, โ€œThe real Black Day for Indiaโ€™s democracy is not in the pastโ€”it is happening now, every single day under BJP rule.โ€ Referring to the past eleven years of BJP governance as an Undeclared Emergency, the Congress said Indian democracy is currently facing a five-fold assault that undermines the Constitution, erodes institutions, and stifles dissent.
I. Assault on the Constitution and Institutions
Call for a New Constitution: During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Prime Minister openly sought a โ€œChar Sau Paarโ€ mandate to rewrite the Constitution, undermining Dr. B.R. Ambedkarโ€™s legacy. The people rejected this, reaffirming faith in the present Constitution.
Erosion of Parliamentary Democracy: The BJP regime has bulldozed important legislation, suspended MPs for raising legitimate concerns, and rendered parliamentary committees toothless.
Undermining Constitutional Bodies: The Election Commission has been reduced to a partisan tool. Its silence on biased poll timings and divisive speeches from BJP leaders raises serious credibility concerns.
Subverting Centre-State Federalism: The BJP has repeatedly engineered the fall of opposition-led governments through inducements and misuse of Governorsโ€™ offices, violating the spirit of cooperative federalism.
Judicial Interference: Threats to judicial independence are evident in punitive transfers, selective promotions, and post-retirement perks for pliant judges.
II. Tax Terror and Corporate Cronyism
The BJP has weaponised tax and investigative agencies to target dissenters and favour certain industrial groups. Prominent educational institutions face arbitrary tax demands while nearly 20,000 NGOs and civil society organisations have been silenced.
III. Media Intimidation and Propaganda
Independent journalism has come under unprecedented attack. Critical reporters face arrest, raids, or financial strangulation. Government advertising is wielded as a weapon, while public broadcasters act as BJP propaganda machines.
The RTI Actโ€”once a beacon of transparencyโ€”has been rendered toothless, curtailing citizens' rights to hold the government accountable.
IV. Misuse of Investigative Agencies
The ED, CBI, and Income Tax Department have become tools of political vendetta. Opposition leaders are routinely harassed, while defectors to the BJP receive instant immunityโ€”becoming โ€œED-muktโ€ and โ€œCBI-mukt.โ€
The massive โ‚น8,000 crore Electoral Bond scam, facilitated by these agencies, stands as the biggest example of institutional misuse.
V. Hate Speech and Civil Liberty Crackdown
BJP leaders have spread hatred and vilified critics. Farmers were branded โ€œKhalistanis,โ€ advocates of social justice were called โ€œurban Naxals,โ€ and Mahatma Gandhiโ€™s assassins are glorified by members of the ruling party.
Minorities, Dalits, and marginalised communities are living in fear, while hate speech from ministers is rewarded with promotions, not punishment.
BJPโ€™s Black Day: Irony and Hypocrisy
Calling BJPโ€™s protest โ€œa theatrical display of hypocrisy,โ€ the APCC reminded the public of the BJPโ€™s own authoritarian conduct in Arunachal Pradeshโ€”especially the 2016 defection drama where the BJP engineered a mass defection of Congress MLAs to topple a democratically elected government.
โ€œThese acts reflect the BJPโ€™s utter disregard for the democratic mandate of the people,โ€ the statement said.
Congress Stands for Democratic Values and Tribal Rights
The APCC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the Constitution, democracy, tribal identity, and inclusive development. It urged citizens to see through the BJPโ€™s propaganda and demand accountability on real issuesโ€”employment, infrastructure, education, and safeguarding the cultural and strategic fabric of Arunachal Pradesh.
โ€œDemocracy is not just about remembering the pastโ€”itโ€™s about protecting the present and securing the future. The Congress party in Arunachal Pradesh stands firm for every citizenโ€™s voice, justice, and dignity,โ€ the statement concluded.
