Bomdila, June 2:
The BJP West Kameng District Unit has lodged a formal complaint at Bomdila Police Station seeking the registration of an FIR against senior media officials over the circulation of an allegedly false report claiming that Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu had resigned from office.
According to the complaint submitted on June 1, the party alleged that the report was published and disseminated without proper verification of facts, resulting in widespread confusion among the public. The BJP stated that the claim not only tarnished the image and credibility of the Chief Minister but also had the potential to undermine public confidence in the democratic governance of the state.
The complaint described the dissemination of false and misleading information through electronic and digital platforms as a serious matter affecting public trust and order. It further contended that such actions may attract legal provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to defamation and the publication of false information, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The district BJP unit has urged the police to register an FIR, conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the publication of the report, preserve all relevant electronic and editorial records, and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
The complaint was jointly signed by BJP West Kameng President Ngawang Lopsang, Vice Presidents Passang Dorjee Megeji, Tenzin Atjepu, Lekhi Sakrinsow and Sange Lhamu Komu, General Secretaries Lobsang Chongruju and Tenzin Thadung, and Executive Member Yangamu.
