Tension Erupts at Tuniyapar in Bongaigaon; Young Couple Handed Over to Police!!

A tense situation unfolded at Tuniyapar in Bongaigaon on Friday evening after local residents detained a young man and a girl over suspicion regarding their stay at a rented house.

According to local residents, the man, identified as Faridul Hussain, came from Nagaland with a girl and reportedly arrived at New Bongaigaon Railway Station while planning to travel to Bengaluru. After allegedly failing to find a hotel room, they were allowed to stay at a rented accommodation by a local resident. The presence of the duo later came to the attention of locals and other tenants, who detained them.

Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (Bongaigaon unit) also reached the spot and alleged that the incident was a case of "Love Jihad." However, this claim has not been verified by the police.

The man and the woman were later handed over to the police for further inquiry. Local residents also alleged that similar incidents had occurred in the area in the past.

Government says that the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 require OTT platforms not to publish content prohibited under law, while intermediaries and social media platforms must exercise due diligence to prevent the hosting or transmission of unlawful content.

The information was shared by MoS for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

An alleged misappropriation of ₹52.76 lakh meant for a government welfare scheme under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) has come to light in Abhayapuri.

According to reports, the President, Marjina Khatun, and Secretary, Laili Begum, of the BRC under the Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) in Srijangram Development Block, Bongaigaon district, are accused of siphoning off funds meant for beneficiaries.

The alleged irregularities surfaced during a financial audit. Questions have also been raised over why the department reportedly gave the accused additional time even after the audit detected the discrepancies.

BPM Babita Chetia stated that an FIR would be filed to determine whether any other individuals or officials were involved in the alleged embezzlement.

The investigation is expected to reveal how funds meant for beneficiaries were allegedly withdrawn and whether any government officials played a role in the scam.
