At least 575 people including 97 children from three districts of Assam have been affected by the first wave of flood, officials said.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), three districts – Udalguri district, Sonitpur district and Cachar district have been affected by the flood.

ASDMA said the flood has hit ten villages under three revenue circles and 150 hectares of cropland under the Gohpur revenue circle and the Kalaigaon revenue circle is currently underwater.

The flood waters have breached five embankments (three in Darrang district and one each in Lakhimpur district and Biswanath Sub-Division), damaged the infrastructure of seven roads and flood waters inundated a few schools, Anganwadi centres.

On the other hand, ASDMA stated that heavy rainfall during the last two days has triggered flash floods in several parts of Silchar town in the Cachar district.

Monday is going to be a historical day for the people of Assam and as a whole, as the maiden journey of the first Vande Bharat Express train from , will be virtually flagged off from Guwahati by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

With the arrival of the state of the art Vande Bharat Express in Assam, people of the region will be able to travelling by express train with speed and comfort. It will also boost tourism in the region.

The express train, which will connect Guwahati with New Jalpaiguri, will help save about an hour of the journey time, as compared to the fastest train the Railways provide, connecting both the places.

The police in on Monday seized he**in worth Rs 12 crore and arrested a person in this connection, an official said.

A police officer said that acting on a tip-off, a truck was intercepted at Zemabawk near Aizawl.

He**in concealed in 200 soap cases was recovered from the vehicle.

The 16-year-old helper of the truck driver, a resident of Assam’s Hailakandi district, was arrested in connection with the seizure, the police officer said.

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly ‘gang-r***d’ in Kokrajhar district of Assam, police informed on Thursday (May 18).

The minor girl was allegedly ‘gang-r***d’ by at least four youths in a moving car in Kokrajhar district in Assam.

This is a question that has raised its head following from two different sources.

An named Pranab Das, a driver by profession, on Wednesday (May 17), claimed that contrary to earlier reports that Junmoni Rabha’s car had smashed into a parked truck leading to her death, it was instead the truck that rammed into the parked car of Junmoni Rabha.

Just a day later, a call between two persons has gone viral in the social media.

In the call recording, one of the person described the sequence of events that led to the ‘accident’ of Junmoni Rabha.

He has also been heard clearly stating that the accident of Junmoni Rabha was in fact a ‘murder’.
