At least 575 people including 97 children from three districts of Assam have been affected by the first wave of flood, officials said.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), three districts – Udalguri district, Sonitpur district and Cachar district have been affected by the flood.

ASDMA said the flood has hit ten villages under three revenue circles and 150 hectares of cropland under the Gohpur revenue circle and the Kalaigaon revenue circle is currently underwater.

The flood waters have breached five embankments (three in Darrang district and one each in Lakhimpur district and Biswanath Sub-Division), damaged the infrastructure of seven roads and flood waters inundated a few schools, Anganwadi centres.

On the other hand, ASDMA stated that heavy rainfall during the last two days has triggered flash floods in several parts of Silchar town in the Cachar district.

Two suspected poachers sustained injuries during a firing incident that took place at the Musalpur Division area of Manas National Park in Assam on Wednesday.

The injured individuals have been identified as Dharmendra Vari and Gopal Bahadur Magar, both residents of Baksa district.

The incident took place based on a specific tip-off, prompting a search operation led by Forest Officials.

Monday is going to be a historical day for the people of Assam and as a whole, as the maiden journey of the first Vande Bharat Express train from , will be virtually flagged off from Guwahati by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

With the arrival of the state of the art Vande Bharat Express in Assam, people of the region will be able to travelling by express train with speed and comfort. It will also boost tourism in the region.

The express train, which will connect Guwahati with New Jalpaiguri, will help save about an hour of the journey time, as compared to the fastest train the Railways provide, connecting both the places.

Vande Bharat Express will cover the journey in about five-and-a-half hours, while the current fastest train takes around six-and-a-half hours to cover the same distance.

As the Semi high Speed train comprises all latest amenities, the difference can be well experienced by the people of northeast during travel.

Assam Police Service ( ) officer Leena Doley, who was removed as Superintendent of Police ( ) of Nagaon district following the death of a 30-year-old woman police officer in a mysterious road accident, came under the spotlight time and again during her stint as the police chief of the district due to multiple wrong reasons.

Leena Doley is under fire after the death of Junmoni Rabha, a sub-inspector in charge of the Morikolong police outpost in Nagaon district, in a mysterious “road accident” in the early hours of May 16 at Jakhalabandha area of the district.

Thousands of social media users have brutally slammed Leena Doley and blamed her for the death of SI Junmoni Rabha.

On May 19, SI Junmoni’s mother Sumitra Rabha lodged an FIR at Jakhalabandha police station alleging that she had been murdered.

Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change ministry will hold a meeting with the forest department officials of Assam on May 24 on the alleged anomalies in the estimation of the rhinos in Kaziranga National Park.

Assam’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force (HoFF), Chief Wild Life Warden, Director of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), evaluators of rhino enumeration exercise in KNP and SPIO of rhino enumeration exercise in KNP have been asked to join the meeting.

Rakesh Kumar Jagenia, Deputy Inspector General of Forests (Wildlife) of Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change ministry in a notice said that the Addl. Director General of Forests & Director, of Wild Life Preservation will chair the meeting.

The police in on Monday seized he**in worth Rs 12 crore and arrested a person in this connection, an official said.

A police officer said that acting on a tip-off, a truck was intercepted at Zemabawk near Aizawl.

He**in concealed in 200 soap cases was recovered from the vehicle.

The 16-year-old helper of the truck driver, a resident of Assam’s Hailakandi district, was arrested in connection with the seizure, the police officer said.

The seized he**in, vehicle and detained person were handed over to Bawngkawn police station for further investigation and legal action.

The he**in was smuggled from Myanmar. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act.

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly ‘gang-r***d’ in Kokrajhar district of Assam, police informed on Thursday (May 18).

The minor girl was allegedly ‘gang-r***d’ by at least four youths in a moving car in Kokrajhar district in Assam.

The four youths ‘forcibly’ took the girl inside a car and allegedly r***d her.

The alleged ‘gang-rape’ of the 13-year-old girl took place inside the moving car along national highway 31C.

Was ‘daredevil’ police officer from – Junmoni Rabha ‘murdered’?

This is a question that has raised its head following from two different sources.

An named Pranab Das, a driver by profession, on Wednesday (May 17), claimed that contrary to earlier reports that Junmoni Rabha’s car had smashed into a parked truck leading to her death, it was instead the truck that rammed into the parked car of Junmoni Rabha.

Just a day later, a call between two persons has gone viral in the social media.

In the call recording, one of the person described the sequence of events that led to the ‘accident’ of Junmoni Rabha.

He has also been heard clearly stating that the accident of Junmoni Rabha was in fact a ‘murder’.
