The Chakma Autonomous District Council, established under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, stands as a significant milestone in the political and cultural journey of the Chakma people in Mizoram. Since its formation in 1972, CADC has played a vital role in ensuring self-governance, safeguarding indigenous identity, and promoting socio-economic development in the Chakma-inhabited areas.
Over the past 55 years, CADC has contributed to:
Strengthening grassroots democracy through autonomous administration
Preserving and promoting Chakma language, culture, and traditions
Advancing education, healthcare, and rural development
Protecting land rights and indigenous heritage
Creating opportunities for youth and community empowerment
Despite numerous challenges, the Council has remained a symbol of resilience and unity for the Chakma people. The journey of CADC reflects both achievements and aspirations โ a continuous effort toward inclusive development, transparency, and stronger governance.
On this special day, we also acknowledge the contributions of past and present leaders, public representatives, civil society members, and citizens whose dedication has shaped the Councilโs path.
As CADC steps into its 56th year, there is renewed hope for:
More effective administration
Sustainable development initiatives
Greater youth participation
Strengthened unity among communities
The Changhma Times remains committed to highlighting the voice, rights, and progress of the Chakma people.
Let this day inspire unity, pride, and a shared vision for a brighter future.
Happy 55th CADC Day!
