Eid Al-Ghadir is one of the most significant celebrations in Shia Islam, commemorating the day the Prophet Muhammad- declared Ali in Abi Talib as his successor at a place calted Ghadir Khumm (18th of Dhul Hijjah).

On the way back from his final Hajj (632 CE), Prophet Muhammad stopped at a place called Ghadir Khumm (a crossroads near Mecca) with over 100,000 companions.

He delivered a major sermon and then raised the hand of Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) and said:
"Whoever I am his Mawla, Ali is his Mawla." (Man kuntu Mawlahu fa-hadha Aliyyun Mawlah)

Quran 5:3 - "Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and chosen Islam as your way.
