It was an unexpected meeting with a truck driver a few months ago which has made me feel how the love and care we give to others would keep in their heart and thoughts.
On August 18th, while I was waiting for someone near Feroke Municipal office, a truck driver, who seemed stranded, approached me for some guidance for locating his destination for loading off the goods.
I contacted the company and provided him all the details for reaching out to his delivery point. He was so happy and invited me for a cup of coffee. I accepted his offer and we had tea together. I didn't allow him to pay the bill.
The matter ended there and I altogether forgot the incident. His name was Ram Sagar Yadav and he hailed from UP
To my utter surprise, I got a call from Ram Sagar Yadav yesterday evening (Deepavali day) saying that he has again come to that place for delivery of goods. He was exchanging all pleasantries, as if we knew each other for a long time. He said he would return to Bangalore the next day.
I was so happy to learn that my little help has left much impression on him.
I thought I should meet Ram Sagar , a very hard working person from north India, who keeps up the warmth of the empathy, despite his hard work.
I told him I will visit him this morning at the godown where his truck is parked.
I went there. I saw him preparing things for his breakfast.
It was a huge truck. I wondered how he could drive such a huge truck with loads of goods all by himself across the various states without even a helper. He told me that he manages the driving without any hitches, prepares food himself in the nearby spot and sleeps in the vehicle itself.. all his daily routine continues with the blessings of the Almighty, as a sole bread winner for his family whom he can meet once in three or four months..
He has to travel to different states constantly and the headquarters of his truck network is in Mumbai. He hails from UP
I gave him a packet of Diwali sweets. His joy knew no bounds. He was hugging me saying that he never had this sort of a nice and loving gesture from anyone behind a tough and isolated job.
These memorable incidents are often powerful because they happen in unexpected places and situations, revealing humanity and empathy to the fellow human beings
