Male Osprey from a little while ago… it’s been a tricky morning for the guys with me, really misty for first couple of hours, but when the mist lifted the Ospreys appeared. This male diving nicely and coming towards our cameras. Since then birds have been over but the tricky wind direction has made it tough for them, still plenty of time yet.

Young pelicans might lack the skills they need to catch their own fish but they certainly don’t lack the ability to threaten and intimidate a more skilled predator like the Osprey. I’ve personally witnessed the gaping maw that is a pelican’s pouch and it is a frightening thing to behold. If they can catch it and fit it in, they will definitely eat it. In this instance the Osprey got away. Glad I’m not a fish.
