Chandel Referee Joyshing Monsang Honoured with Oja Benudhar Memorial Trophy

Chandel, June 24, 2026: In a proud moment for the football fraternity of Manipur, and particularly for Chandel district, Th. Joyshing Monsang, the lone AIFF Elite National Referee from Manipur, has been conferred the prestigious Oja Benudhar Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the Best Referee of the Year in Manipur.

The award was presented during the closing ceremony of the 65th C.C. Meet 2025–26, organized by the All Manipur Football Association. Along with the coveted trophy, Joyshing received a cash prize of ₹5,000. The award is sponsored by the family members of the late Chongtham Benudhar Singh in recognition of outstanding excellence, professionalism, and dedication in football refereeing.

Hailing from Japhou Bazar, Chandel district, Joyshing is the son of late Th. Angpatin Monsang and Ts. Sharmila Monsang. He began his refereeing journey in 2015 and steadily rose through the ranks through hard work and perseverance. After successfully clearing the National Referee Examination in 2019, he earned recognition as an AIFF National Elite Referee in 2022.

Over the years, Joyshing has officiated in several prestigious national and international tournaments. His notable assignments include I-League 2 and I-League 3, AFC Youth Tournaments held in Tajikistan and Malaysia, the Dr. T. Ao North East International Football Championship, the Santosh Trophy, and the renowned NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy, among others.

Apart from his accomplishments on the field, Joyshing has remained an active and dedicated member of the District Sports Association Chandel, contributing significantly to the growth and promotion of football in the district. His success story stands as a testament to dedication, discipline, and excellence, inspiring aspiring referees and young sportspersons across Chandel and Manipur.

The recognition not only celebrates Joyshing’s personal achievements but also brings immense pride to the people of Chandel, highlighting the district’s growing contribution to the sporting landscape of the state and beyond.

Chandel District Olympic Association Observes International Olympic Day with Tree Plantation Drive

Chandel, June 23, 2026: In observance of International Olympic Day, the Chandel District Olympic Association (CDOA) organized a tree plantation programme at the Ziontlang Village Football Ground on Tuesday, following a directive issued by the Manipur Olympic Association.

The programme was led by S.S. Olish, MLA of Chandel and President of CDOA, who actively participated in the tree plantation activities and encouraged the promotion of environmental conservation alongside the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

The event witnessed the participation of several officials and executive members of the Association, including Ts Chamna A**l, Ts Kothar Monsang, HL Lovingson, Db Kowar Lamkang, Th Albert Chothe, Bs Augustine, and Rd Sujani, along with other executive members.

The tree plantation drive was undertaken as part of the Olympic Day celebrations, emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability and community participation. DHBCF Chandel Organises Special Prayer Programme for Peace and Justice in Manipur

Chandel, June 20, 2026: In a solemn expression of Christian solidarity, compassion, and commitment to peace, the District Headquarters Baptist Churches Fellowship (DHBCF), Chandel, organised a Special Prayer Programme at the District H/Q Baptist Church, Japhou Bazar, Chandel, on June 20. The gathering was held in remembrance of the six victims of the recent killings at Konsakhul, while also seeking divine intervention for justice, healing, and the restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.

The programme witnessed the participation of more than 200 believers, including pastors, deacons, church leaders, elders, women, youth, and members from various Baptist churches under the Chandel Headquarters area. The event reflected a rare and inspiring display of unity, as people from different tribal and social backgrounds came together in prayer, demonstrating the spirit of Christian fellowship beyond communal and ethnic boundaries.

The service was moderated by Rev. Alembert Langhu, Pastor of District H/Q Baptist Church, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of collective prayer during times of crisis and uncertainty. The opening prayer was led by Sk. Bungwar, Treasurer of DHBCF, invoking God’s guidance, comfort, and protection for the people of Manipur.

Addressing the congregation, Rev. Sng. Nelson, Pastor of Lambung Baptist Church, and Rev. J. Simon, Pastor of Mantri Pantha Baptist Church, delivered messages emphasizing the need for peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness. Both pastors strongly condemned the senseless and barbaric violence that has claimed innocent lives and brought suffering to many families. They urged believers and the wider society to reject hatred and division and instead embrace the Christian values of love, compassion, understanding, and mutual respect.

The speakers further stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved through sincere efforts at trust-building among communities and a collective commitment to justice and human dignity. They encouraged citizens to become agents of peace in their respective communities and to work towards healing the social fabric of the state.

In his address, Rev. K. Kumar Monsang, Chairman of DHBCF, spoke on the significance of Christian fellowship and the role of the Church in promoting harmony during challenging times. He expressed appreciation to all participating churches and members for their active involvement and unwavering support. He noted that the overwhelming turnout was a testament to the collective concern of the Christian community for the welfare of the state.

Rev. Monsang also made a heartfelt appeal to both the Central and State Governments, security forces, law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and civil society organisations to work collaboratively and responsibly towards restoring peace and stability in Manipur. He called upon all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, understanding, and humanitarian considerations in addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the state.

Throughout the programme, special prayers were offered for the departed souls of the six victims, for their bereaved families, for justice to prevail, and for lasting peace and reconciliation among all communities in Manipur. Participants also prayed for wisdom and strength for leaders at all levels, as well as for the safe and speedy return of normalcy across the state.

The programme concluded with a closing prayer delivered by Lh. Salemni, Secretary of DHBCF. The gathering ended on a note of hope and renewed commitment to peace, followed by refreshments served by the host church.

NPCM and CNPO Adopt Key Resolutions at Chandel Awareness Programme

Chandel, June 16: The Native People Committee, Manipur (NPCM), in collaboration with the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO), organised a one-day awareness programme under the theme “Unified Response” at Panchai Hall, District Headquarters, Chandel, on Tuesday.

The programme was moderated by Sh. Kalenchung, General Secretary of CNPO, and Jurist Abonmai, while Timothy Zimik (Retd. IRS) and Homen Thangjam, Assistant Professor, Indira Gandhi Tribal University (IGTU), attended as resource persons.

The event commenced with rapporteurs HB Kowahring and Mibaam Hungyo, followed by a welcome address delivered by D. Thamdok Francis, President, CNPO. The keynote address was presented by Ashang Kasar, Convenor, NPCM, who highlighted the need for collective action and indigenous solidarity in addressing the challenges confronting Manipur.

Following extensive deliberations, the house unanimously adopted a series of resolutions on key issues, including the Census, the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the ongoing conflict in Manipur, the recent killing of six Naga individuals, and the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement.

CANDLELIGHT VIGILS HELD ACROSS CHANDEL IN MEMORY OF SIX NAGA VICTIMS

Chandel, June 14, 2026: In a poignant display of solidarity and collective mourning, churches and communities across Chandel District observed candlelight vigils in memory of the six Naga victims—Pastor Kenpibou, Rev. Manu, Phenrongwibou, Phenrilungbou, Dilip, and Kaliwangbou—who were abducted and brutally killed.

The vigils witnessed widespread participation from church congregations and local residents, reflecting the deep grief and anguish felt by the Naga community. At B. Wanghera, residents gathered to offer prayers and light candles as a symbol of remembrance and unity. Members of Y/Khutha Baptist Church also lit candles during their worship service, paying tribute to the departed souls and expressing support for the bereaved families.

In A**l Khunou village, the entire community joined the observance, demonstrating a strong sense of togetherness in the face of tragedy. Similarly, members of Thangbung Minou Baptist Church held a candlelight rally, carrying candles in their hands as they marched in remembrance of the victims.

Lambung Baptist Church organized a special prayer service, during which candles were lit in honour of the deceased and prayers were offered for strength and comfort to their families. Candlelight vigils and special prayer gatherings were also conducted at Hnatham Baptist Church, Phunchung Baptist Church, and Thamlapokpi Baptist Church.

The district-wide observance underscored the shared sense of loss among the Naga people while reaffirming their collective call for justice, accountability, and respect for human dignity. Through prayers, reflection, and the lighting of candles, the participants paid tribute to the victims and conveyed a powerful message of unity, resilience, and hope during a time of profound sorrow.

Chandel, June 5, 2026: In observance of World Environment Day 2026, the Chandel Forest Division organised a Tree Plantation Programme at St. Peter Higher Secondary School, Monsang Pantha, Chandel today under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0.”

Dr. S.S. Olish, Hon'ble MLA of 41-Chandel Assembly Constituency, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, Shri Hemant Kumar, IAS and Shri N. Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer attended the programme and participated in the plantation drive.

The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, increasing green cover and encouraging public participation in safeguarding nature for future generations. The initiative also reflected the spirit of the campaign, which calls upon citizens to plant and nurture trees as a tribute to their mothers while contributing to climate action and ecological sustainability.

District Level Officers, students, teachers, officials of the Forest Department and members of the local community also participated in the plantation drive. Various saplings were planted within the school campus and surrounding areas including St. Paul school, Komlakhong and 21 Assam Rifles, Modi Village Chandel. All together 15,000 (fifteen thousand) trees saplings were aimed to be planted today to mark the observation.

Little Ones Conducts Community Clean-Up Drive as Part of Green Week

Chandel, June 3, 2026: As part of its ongoing Green Week celebrations, Little Ones Preparatory Academy organized the first phase of its environmental initiative through a one-day community clean-up drive on Wednesday. The drive covered the stretch from the school campus to the Lambung Bailey Bridge, reflecting the institution’s commitment to environmental conservation, civic responsibility, and community engagement.

Approximately 200 students, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, actively participated in the programme. Equipped with cleaning materials and guided by their teachers, the participants collected waste and cleared public spaces along the route. The initiative aimed to instill the values of cleanliness, environmental stewardship, and collective responsibility among young learners while encouraging the wider community to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.

The clean-up drive also served as an educational activity, providing students with practical exposure to the importance of environmental protection and sustainable living. Through their active involvement, students learned that even small individual efforts can contribute significantly to building cleaner and greener communities.

Speaking on the occasion, school authorities emphasized the importance of nurturing environmental awareness from an early age. They noted that such activities help students develop a sense of ownership toward their surroundings and inspire them to become responsible citizens committed to protecting the environment.

Little Ones Preparatory Academy has steadily grown since its establishment. The kindergarten section of the institution was founded in 2014 at Japhou Bazar, providing early childhood education to the local community. In 2025, the school expanded its academic programme by introducing classes I to V at its new campus in Lambung Village, marking a significant milestone in its development.

The institution is currently led by Director Rev. Sng Nelson A**l and Principal Lk Villy Kiho, whose vision continues to guide the school in promoting academic excellence alongside character building and social responsibility.
