GANGUBAI KATHIYAWADI :
There is a scene of Azaad maidaan in the film where a hostess inviting Gangubai to the podium for the speech. While introducing Gangubai on stage, the hostess become bit confused how to address her. At times she calls her “ Kumari……” and at times she calls her “Shrimati……”. To avoid this confusion Gangubai herself walks up to her. The female host apologizes to Gangubai and says “ I’am sorry, confuse ho gayi thi ke aapko kaise address karu”. Gangu takes over and says “ Aap to bolne me confuse ho, hum to yeh roz jee rahe hain…” This is what Gangubai Kathiyawadi is all about.
GANGUBAI KATHIYAWADI is Phenomenal, emotional, fascinating, painful and so powerful. This film is not an ordinary craft. This has something which is beyond all the layers of mechanism of making a hindi Cinema. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has done wonders in his frames, narration, performances and the understanding he as given to his actors seems like Magic spell.
Alia Bhatt – She is Terrific. She has proved that ‘STARS’ can also be real actors who can engrossed in characters in such a way that can create a next level of magic on celluloid. Be it her walk in her introductory scene, be it the scene when she explodes on telephone, be it the scene where she lies down next to Kamli on her death bed… she makes every scene so convincing, important and inexorable. Alia Bhatt is a global actor who can make India proud, who can make us proud that we belong to this culture of cinema.
GANGUBAI KATHIYAWADI takes you away from your own world to the of Gangubai… GANGUBAI KATHIYAWADI not only makes you glued to her world, but also makes you participate into it. Closing this piece of writing from an important scene where Gangubai meets former prime minister Pt. Jawahar lal Nehru. She looks at the red rose on his upper pocket and says, “ Kabhi Kamathipura aayiga, Wahan ke galiyon mein aapko kaale Gulab milenge “
