“Indian Army, not Gulf jobs.”

Former Gorkha soldiers and their supporters took to the streets in Pokhara, Nepal, demanding the resumption of recruitment of Nepali youths into the Indian Army under the Agnipath scheme.

Gorkha recruitment has been disrupted since 2020, with Nepal raising concerns over the four-year Agniveer service model and post-service prospects.

The protesters argue that military service in India offers Nepali youths a better opportunity while preserving a centuries-old Gorkha military tradition linking India and Nepal.

The protest comes days ahead of Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth’s scheduled visit to Nepal from August 16.
