A Heartfelt Appeal from the Research Scholars of Panjab University .

Dear Friends,

At this moment, our beloved Himachal Pradesh—our home of serene mountains, sacred rivers, and simple-hearted people—is passing through one of its most painful chapters. The recent calamities have left behind trails of destruction—homes washed away, villages shattered, and countless dreams buried under the debris of floods and landslides. What once echoed with the songs of life now stands silent under the shadow of loss and despair.

We, the research scholars from Panjab University who hail from the mountains of Himachal Pradesh, cannot remain untouched by this suffering. The pain of our people is the pain of our own hearts. Those who once welcomed travelers with warmth and simplicity, those who lived in harmony with nature—today they stand helpless, fighting the harshness of circumstances.

In this hour of distress, we have come together to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Himachal Pradesh Disaster Relief Fund. It is not merely an act of donation; it is an act of solidarity, of gratitude to the land that nurtured us, and of compassion for the people who have lost everything but hope.

We humbly appeal to you—our friends, colleagues, and well-wishers—to join us in this collective effort. Every contribution, however small, carries the power to rebuild a home, feed a hungry soul, and restore faith in humanity. What may seem like a drop to us could be a lifeline to someone waiting for help in those devastated valleys.

Let us prove that empathy still lives in our hearts. Let us stand together—not as outsiders or onlookers—but as one family bound by the spirit of love, compassion, and shared humanity.

🙏 If you wish to be part of this humble initiative, you can contribute through the following details:
📱 GPay/UPI: 9736753130 (Ashish Pal)
After contributing, please share a screenshot for record and transparency.

Every rupee you share will directly go into the official relief fund to ensure that no single penny is wasted, and that it reaches those who truly need it.

Let our small acts of kindness become the light that reaches the darkest corners of our hills.

According to sources within the university, department chairpersons were given a directive to ensure students submit a signed legal document, or affidavit, stating they will seek prior permission to participat in any form of protest against the PU authority.

The directive, which has been described by some faculty members as an act of intimidation, did not end there. The PU administration has also allegedly asked the Chairpersons to provide a list of students who refuse to submit the said affidavits. This has raised fears that students who stand firm on their right to protest could face administrative action or academic repercussions.

"This is an unprecedented attempt to silence dissent on campus," said a student leader who requested anonymity, fearing retribution. "Protesting against policies we disagree with is a fundamental right. Turning it into a legal promise not to do so, and then seeking out those who refuse, is a clear act of authoritarianism."

Faculty members are reportedly caught between following the administration's mandate and protecting their students' rights. "We are being pressurised to act as enforcers for a policy that many of us disagree with," a department head commented off the record. "The potential for this to create a climate of fear and self-censorship among the student body is immense."

So far, the Panjab University administration has not issued an official statement regarding the alleged directive.

Student bodies are expected to convene soon to plan a unified response to the controversial order.

GenZ on Two Wheels: A Dangerous Ride!

A startling display of recklessness has been captured on camera at the UIET gate near the Sector 24 light point, highlighting a serious and growing concern about road safety among young people. The image shows a group of school-going boys, appearing to be in their teens, crammed onto a single scooter, with another boy riding alongside on a bicycle. The scene, devoid of helmets or any semblance of caution, serves as a stark reminder of the casual disregard for traffic rules that has become increasingly common among this age group.
The photograph, depicts five young boys dangerously balanced on a single two-wheeler, a blatant violation of traffic laws and a grave risk to their own lives and those of other road users. The image of a sixth boy riding his bicycle just inches away, seemingly part of the same group, further underscores the cavalier attitude towards public safety.
This incident is not an isolated one. Across India, there has been a notable rise in road accidents involving young drivers, with police and government officials in several cities raising alarms about speeding, reckless maneuvers, and a general lack of road discipline among this demographic. Recent data from cities like Coimbatore and Bhopal shows a troubling increase in fatalities among individuals under 30, with speeding and rash driving cited as primary reasons. Educational institutions are now being held responsible for students' traffic violations, with some authorities issuing directives to schools and colleges to enforce road safety norms and conduct awareness programs.
The behavior captured in the image aligns with some of the challenges associated with Generation Z, the cohort born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s. While Gen Z is known for being tech-savvy, socially conscious, and pragmatic, there's also a documented trend of risky behavior, often fueled by a quest for social media validation and a perception of invincibility. This reckless attitude on the road is a dangerous contradiction to their otherwise informed and aware nature.

A startling incident has come to light at Panjab University where an employee was bitten by a pet dog. The incident has prompted a formal complaint to the Vice-Chancellor, demanding strict action.
According to the complaint filed by the employee, Surender Singh, poen in the department of Art History and Visual Arts, the incident occurred on August 19. Singh was sitting outside his office around 1 PM when he was attacked and bitten on the arm by a pet dog that had been brought into the office by the head of the department.
Singh was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Sector-38 for treatment, where he received an anti-rabies injection. In his complaint, Singh claims that when he spoke to the department head about the incident, he was rudely told that the dog was vaccinated.

The complaint highlights three key demands:
* An immediate ban on bringing pets into the university's premises.
* Strict and disciplinary action against the department head for their negligence.
* Ensuring a safe and professional environment for all staff and students.
Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the Dean of University Instructions, the Registrar, and other key officials. While the university administration has yet to release an official statement, a source says the incident is being taken very seriously, noting that such negligence could lead to more severe incidents in the future.
