⚖️ A significant interim order by the Punjab and Haryana High Court could bring relief to thousands of homebuyers living in stalled or abandoned housing projects across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

The case involved over 500 families in a Zirakpur housing project who were living without regular electricity after the builder allegedly abandoned the project. While the power utility cited unpaid dues of over ₹4.44 crore, the court directed that temporary electricity connections be provided to residents under a stop-gap arrangement.

More importantly, the court emphasized that innocent homebuyers should not suffer because of the failures of builders or administrative systems. The Bench observed that authorities should have established safeguards and mechanisms to deal with situations where developers disappear after collecting money from buyers.

Legal experts believe the observations could influence future policies related to abandoned housing projects, utility connections and protection of homebuyers. The order may also serve as a reference for residents of other stalled projects seeking access to basic civic services.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest has begun at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, with founder Abhijeet Dipke leading the demonstration after arriving in the capital from the United States earlier today.

Delhi Police granted permission for the protest from 10 AM to 5 PM, while security was tightened around Jantar Mantar. Protesters gathered at the site raising demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination-related irregularities.

Dipke was seen leaving Delhi airport after clearing immigration and heading towards Jantar Mantar. The movement, which started as a satirical online campaign, has now taken its first major step from social media to an on-ground protest.

The protest is being projected as a peaceful student-led demonstration focused on accountability in the education system, with supporters raising concerns related to exams such as NEET, CBSE, CUET and SSCGD.

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived in New Delhi ahead of the party’s first major on-ground protest at Jantar Mantar, marking a significant moment for the youth-led movement that has gained massive traction on social media.

Dipke, who had been living in the United States for the past two years, returned to India despite concerns from family and supporters about possible legal action. Upon his arrival, security arrangements were heightened across parts of Delhi, with police deploying personnel and monitoring the situation closely ahead of the demonstration.

The protest, which has received permission from Delhi Police, is being organised by CJP to raise concerns over examination-related issues and seek accountability from authorities. The movement has attracted widespread attention from students and young people across the country and recently held its first press conference while announcing official spokespersons.

Notably, Dipke had earlier appealed to supporters not to gather at the airport, citing security and public convenience concerns, and instead asked them to participate peacefully in the scheduled protest.

🌱 Chandigarh has taken a significant step towards its goal of becoming a carbon-neutral city by launching a comprehensive scientific study to assess its environmental health and carbon footprint.

The UT Administration’s Department of Environment has invited proposals for a city-wide assessment of greenhouse gas emissions, carbon sequestration capacity, forestry resources, climate change impacts, soil carbon and pollution hotspots. The study will cover the entire 140 sq km area of Chandigarh, including urban sectors, parks, gardens, institutional campuses and the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary.

Using advanced tools such as GIS mapping and remote sensing, experts will identify areas generating high emissions and evaluate how much carbon the city’s green cover can absorb. The study will also analyse environmental trends from the past decade and project future emissions up to 2030.

Officials believe the findings will help create a detailed roadmap for Chandigarh’s carbon neutrality goals and establish the city as a model for evidence-based climate planning in India.
