‘I Felt Under House Arrest in Ladakh’: Sonam Wangchuk’s wife speaks out
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, says she was forced to “escape” Ladakh after feeling “under house arrest” following her husband’s arrest under the National Security Act. In an Interview with The Tribune’s Sneha Richhariya in Delhi, Angmo accuses the administration of narrative control, media blackout and alleges torture of Wangchuk’s institute staff. She questions the government’s claims of inclusive governance and development, alleges corruption, and says Ladakhi people have “lost trust” in the Centre. Angmo seeks immediate intervention from The President and urges dialogue, release of detained protesters, and safeguards under the Sixth Schedule as the way forward.

Dussehra was celebrated across India with great devotion and joy, symbolising the timeless victory of good over evil. In Panchkula, the tallest effigy in the state — a towering 181-ft Ravana — was burnt at the Shalimar Ground in Sector 2, drawing huge crowds. Meanwhile, at Delhi’s historic Red Fort, President Droupadi Murmu attended the celebrations, adding grace and significance to the festive occasion.
