In a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s expansion plan in Mizoram, the party’s hold over the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) has been lost due to inner party squabbles and defection.

The BJP had grabbed power in the 20-member CADC on February 4, 2025 for the first time in its history since the council’s formation in 1972. Mizoram has three autonomous district councils (ADCs) set up under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Kamalanagar, 19 May, 2025: Today, the CDCEA convened an emergency Executive Body meeting to address the recent regularisation of co-terminus employees (i.e. PA/PS to EMs) by the CADC, despite the Association’s strong opposition.

During the meeting, the Executive Body of CDCEA expressed strong disapproval of the blatant disregard for the assurance provided under Letter No. B.12014/1/EC/CADC/2023-2024/(G)/295, dated Kamalanagar, 19th March 2025 and unanimously opposed the regularisation of PA/PS (co-terminus employees) in view of the prevailing financial constraints of CADC.

After thorough and detailed deliberation, the meeting unanimously adopted the following resolutions:

1. The CDCEA shall submit a formal representation to the Executive Committee of CADC, requesting a ''Review'' of the recent regularisation of PA/PS.

2. Dustbins shall be distributed to all departments by the CDCEA as part of its initiative to promote a 'Cleaner and Greener CADC'.

3. Steps shall be constructed in front of the CDCEA Office Building.

4. All preparatory work related to the upcoming CDCEA elections shall be completed by December 2025.
