India's Efforts in Semiconductor Gather Pace

India is set to launch first domestically developed semiconductor chip September or October 2025, representing a major achievement the nation's pursuit of technological self-sufficiency. This endeavour is a joint collaboration between Tata Electronics and Taiwan Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), with the chip production to take at the forthcoming fabrication facility inholera, Gujarat.

The Government of has allocated ₹334 crore to the Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru to promote research and development gallium nit (Ga) technology. GaN plays a vital role in telecommunications and power electronics applications.

Semicon India Program: Introduced in December 2021 with a of ₹76,000 crore, this initiative seeks to develop a strong semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in India. It offers support to companies investing in semiconductor fabrication, display production, and design.

These advancements reflect dedication to itself as a key participant in the global semiconductor industry, minimizing reliance on, and promoting innovation and employment opportunities within the nation.
