If human choices are predetermined, can actions truly be "good"? 🤔 Without genuine moral agency, actions lose ethical meaning. Doing right requires the ability to choose wrong—otherwise, it's just programming, not righteousness.

Scripture presupposes our capacity for choice. God's command in Deuteronomy 6:18 to "do what is right and good" only makes sense if we are free moral agents made in His image, capable of understanding and obeying His will. This is why the debate over free will isn't just philosophical - it's theological. It touches the very nature of humanity, sin, and virtue.

If you want to deepen your understanding of moral theology and human agency, our Online MA in Theology & Christian Ethics delves into these essential questions. Do you believe true morality requires free will?

Living Your Why 12: The Urgency of Mortality

"Turn the other cheek" vs. "A time for war." ⚔️✌️ How do we reconcile these two parts of Scripture?

The reality of evil forces us to ask: Is war ever the lesser of two evils? Can it be an act of justice to protect the vulnerable? For centuries, Christians have wrestled with this through frameworks like Just War Theory, which seeks to morally limit the horror of conflict.

This isn't about easy answers. It's about holding the tension between the call to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:9) and the responsibility to seek justice in a broken world. If you're driven to understand not just what to think, but how to think biblically about war, peace, and justice, our Online MA in Theology & Religion is designed for you.

Where do you find the tension in this debate?

AI can mimic patterns, but can it possess wisdom? 🤖
As artificial intelligence makes more decisions, we're forced to confront a fundamental question: what is the true source of morality? The Bible offers a profound starting point: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10). This suggests that true understanding and right judgment are rooted in a relationship with God and reverence for His character—a dimension of existence completely beyond the reach of any algorithm.

This isn't just a technical challenge; it's a deeply human and theological one. Our Online MA in Theology & Christian Ethics prepares you to navigate these frontiers, providing a critical framework for the digital age. How do you think we should define ethics for AI? Share your perspective.

We can now rewrite the blueprint of life. 🧬✨ But this power forces a profound question: are we faithful stewards or are we "playing God"? The Christian response is not monolithic. Some theologians argue genetic engineering is a sinful overreach into the sacred, while others see curing disease as a fulfillment of our call to love our neighbor and combat suffering.

This debate sits at the heart of what it means to be human, created in God's image (Genesis 1:27). Navigating it requires wisdom that bridges biblical theology, ethics, and science.
If you're drawn to leading conversations on the frontiers of faith and science, our Online MA in Theology & Theology will equip you. Learn to engage with complexity, grace, and intellectual rigor.
