☔️ After a Long Dry and Brutal series of 40-41°C Heatwave, Chennai - KTCC Belt and North Coastal districts will get the much needed Veppasalanam Rains (Thunderstorms) from today. Parts of Chennai got light Rains yesterday. It's just a start, More Thunderstorm Rains on cards in upcoming days.

♦️ Other North Coastals and North - Central Interiors also will recieve Good Widespread Thunderstorms in this period. Hopefully, 1-2 Spells of Widespread Rains for some respite from long lasting Heat in KTCC belt.

☔️ Chennai city and suburbs having fair chances of Rains from tomorrow till Sunday (May 17) as the system lingers around the bay expected to reach close to TN coast. Same applicable to other North Coastal districts. Interiors will have enhanced chances for Thunderstorms.

♦️ After the system dissipates, North TN especially KTCC belt, Vellore and Ranipet stretch will have Hot sizzling days. More likely, Chennai city and suburbs might touch 40-41c once again next week.

☔️ Hello everyone! 👋 Hope all doing good.. Respite from Severe Heatwave especially in Chennai - KTC belt and North TN districts from tomorrow till next week or so. UAC developing near SL which brings easterly wave into play which not only subsides the temp it also Provide Rains over TN Coastal districts.

♦️ Interiors getting Good Thunderstorms past 2 weeks and could become more Widespread from Tomorrow to next 3-4 days. Delta, South TN, Central and Western districts might benefit more from this event. Chennai city and suburbs would get Light/Moderate Rains from Tomorrow.

🌀 UAC could become a stronger system (Even a Cyclone) later, which could travel either in Bay or Arabian sea. Further Rains depends on the movement of the system.

☔️ Chennai and suburbs got Good Widespread Rains Yesterday. This system satisfied KTCC belt when compared to Jan 2nd week spell. Mahabs tops KTCC belt with 65 mm. South Chennai and suburbs got more Rains compared to other parts. Chennai on average got 2-3 cms. Pondy, Cuddalore and Delta too got Good Rains.

♦️ Today, Interiors getting Rains especially western parts of TN. Rains will ease off completely from tomorrow. Refer pic 2 for Rainfall data.

☔️ Entire TN coast will get Rains for next 2-3 Days. A weak circulation associated with Easterlies approaching towards our coast. Further Interiors might also get Rains. Temperature also will be cool and chill.

♦️ Chennai city missed Jan 2nd week spell. Let's see how much can get from this current wave. Already Parts of Chennai got Light Rains today evening. More Spells possible in next 2 days.

☔️ Chennai got Drizzle/Light Rains from this event. It didn't climb up enough to impact also weakened drastically due to Dry air interaction. But, Chennai enjoyed Kulu kulu weather past 2 days. Yesterday max was just 24c. Instead of Rains, It provided Beautiful hill station like chillness!! From Tomorrow, It'll become slightly warmer and Night temperatures would dip Significantly.

♦️ For Delta regions, Good Rains happened past 3 days and will continue tonight too. Few places reported Heavy Rains (Above 65+ mm). Rains expected till tomorrow morning and will ease off completely. Western & Central interior districts will have Rains tomorrow.

☔️ Rains could start gradually over delta districts from tomorrow. As of now, Pondy to Ramnad coastal stretch (Delta Prime Hotspot) ideally placed for Widespread Heavy Rains between 10 - 12th January. Farmers from these regions must be alert and plan accordingly.

🌀90B turned to Deep Depression today and moving NW direction. Should wait and watch whether it crosses SL directly or will graze along the SL coast and to TN.

♦️ Chennai - KTC belt too could get Rains on 10th and 11th January. If the system climbs well up to Delta Latitude, Chennai might get Good Rains. All Depends on the track and its movement.

🌀 Fresh Low pressure area formed in Indian Ocean and will move NW direction towards Srilanka and TN coast in next 48-72 hours. Pondy to Delta belt and Parts of STN would be the Prime Hotspots for Rains. January Rains are becoming a new normal since 2020.

🚨 Rains expected to commence around 9/10th January and expected to continue till 12/13th January. Since it's Harvesting period, Farmers are advised to complete their harvest works before 9th Jan especially in Delta region.

🌧 For KTCC Belt, Rains Depends on how much it climbs up. As of now, Rains possible around 10-11th January. "More the NW movement, More the Rains for us".

☔️ What a Suprise Grand Welcome to 2026 for Chennai!! Unexpected Carnage Rains pounded in parts of North Chennai overnight 😍 Perambur scored century. Reason due to westerlies & Easterlies clash at mid level. North Chennai got Good Rains whereas not much in South Chennai. (Refer pic 3 for complete Rainfall data)

♦️ NEM statistically ended in TN yesterday with -3% from normal. Also, Above Normal NEM streak ends for Chennai this year with -10% deficit from normal. Tirunelveli highest with +95% and Chengalpattu with lowest -35%. Overall an Average monsoon for Chennai and TN.

☔️ Easterlies won't disappoint us! Expected Light to Moderate Rains today and it delivered perfectly 👌 South and Core Chennai city areas got Moderate Rains especially OMR - ECR stretch got Decent Spells. Uthandi topping as of now with 36 mm. South Chennai got 2cms on average. Not much in North Chennai this time.

♦️ Rains will ease off completely over KTCC belt from tomorrow. Delta and STN districts will continue to have Rains and further Chill Dry winds takes charge from Thursday. We'll see proper winter in upcoming days. Chennai city might have chance to record below 20c. Enjoy the kulu kulu nights!! 🥶
