Continuing the Madras Day 2026 series with a deep dive into CSI St. Mary’s Church. Consecrated in 1680, this space isn't just a church; it is a living, breathing time capsule of early Madras.
Built with a uniquely curved, bomb-proof vaulted roof designed to withstand cannon fire during sieges, these walls have witnessed monumental history—including the marriages of Robert Clive and Elihu Yale. As you swipe through the 10 frames, look closely at the deeply carved marble plaques (Slides 4, 6 & 7). They are the reason this building earned its nickname, holding centuries of memories etched in stone.
Massive thanks to the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department and the Government of Tamil Nadu for organizing this heritage walk, and to historian V Sriram Sriram Venkatakrishnan for bringing these historic walls to life for us today.

There is no better way to celebrate Madras Day than exploring the grounds where so much of our modern history was written. From the towering white facades of Thalamai Seyalagam (the Secretariat) to the peaceful, timeless aisles of CSI St. Mary’s Church, every corner of Fort St. George holds a different century of stories.
A massive thank you to the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department and the Government of Tamil Nadu for organizing this incredible walk.
A very special shoutout to renowned historian V Sriram ( Sriram Venkatakrishnan )for guiding us. Hearing the deep, untold history of Fort St. George and St. Mary’s Church directly from him completely changed how I look at these walls.

This is the next chapter of our Madras Day 2026 Heritage series. The Chepauk Palace is actively under renovation right now, which made this walk a brilliant creative challenge. I wanted to carefully frame each of these shots to completely hide the restoration work and capture the uninterrupted majesty of these historic walls.

When you are framing a structure as grand as the PWD Building, a single shot never does it justice. You have to experience how the space changes as you move closer.
Slide 1: The grand establishing facade.

The absolute crown jewel of the University of Madras. 🏛️✨

Continuing the Madras Day 2026 series with the breathtaking Senate House...

Designed by the pioneering architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm and completed in the 1870s, this masterpiece is one of the most stunning representations of Indo-Saracenic architecture in the entire country. From the towering stone pillars to the intricately designed Byzantine-inspired domes, every single detail of this structure commands attention.

Having the privilege to document this iconic landmark during the official Madras Day Heritage Photowalk was an unforgettable experience. It is a powerful reminder of the deep academic and architectural legacy that built our city.

The red bricks of the PWD building hold over 150 years of Madras history. 🏛️✨

This single structure changed the architectural face of our city forever...

Built in the 1860s and designed by the pioneering architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm, the Public Works Department (PWD) building is one of the earliest and most stunning examples of Indo-Saracenic architecture in India.

By brilliantly blending Islamic arches, Hindu domes, and Victorian Gothic elements, Chisholm created a completely new architectural language for Madras. For over a century and a half, these sweeping arches and exposed red brick facades have stood as silent witnesses to the evolution of our city.

I had the incredible privilege of documenting this masterpiece during the official Madras Day 2026 Heritage Photowalk. Capturing these intricate details is a powerful reminder of the legacy we walk past every single day.

Most people just smell the roasted corn, but I saw a micro-explosion. 🤯

Swipe to the final slide to see what pure street energy looks like frozen in time...

The streets of Chennai completely transform at night. I was drawn to the raw heat of this local vendor, and I wanted to capture the exact progression of that chaotic, explosive light.

Slide 1: The atmosphere. The deep street bokeh and the glowing stove anchoring the scene.

Slide 2: The focus. Getting tighter on the explosive sparks contrasting against the deep shadows.

Slide 3: The abstract. Stripping away all context to freeze the chaotic light trails mid-air.

Capturing flying sparks like this is all about dialing in the exact right shutter speed to catch those sharp light trails before they burn out into the dark.

There is always a story behind the frame. The trees around my house are always filled with birds, and this little one was completely locked in on the sounds.

Frame 1 (Right): The candid hunter. Looking up, completely distracted by the birds in the branches above.

Frame 2 (Left): The realization. The exact second it realized I was capturing the moment, snapped its attention away from the trees, and locked eyes directly with the phone.

Capturing that instant transition from natural distraction to direct eye contact is proof that the best camera is simply the one you have on you. Both frames have a completely different energy.

Most people only see the towering glass IT parks in the background. 🏙️

But if you look closer at the foreground, a completely different story is unfolding...

The expansive sky.

The towering glass IT parks.

The local government school.

The playground where kids are deep in football practice.

And right here in the foreground, the waterlogged grassroots anchoring it all.

The most powerful shots don't just capture a single subject—they capture an entire ecosystem. This single landscape holds the complete, unfiltered rhythm of our city's growth, balancing tomorrow's corporate skyline with today's grassroots reality.

I travel. I walk. I photograph the rhythm of the streets. 📷🚶‍♂️
It is not to escape life. It isn't a search for some grand purpose, nor is it a pursuit of passion just to prove something to someone else.

Over the years, I've realized that instead of constantly running alongside time, I just want to freeze it. When you truly explore places, connect with people, and hear about their lives, you quickly realize that our own obstacles are never as massive as they seem in our heads. Every person you meet on a photowalk gives you a lesson; every face tells a different story.

I just want to freeze the heart of these cities. I want to show their rhythm and give life to the photographs.
