With stories unfolding alongside the rich world of weaves, a walk through the exhibition, and an engaging interactive session with young participants, including students from AF Madras, it was a day beautifully woven with joy, culture, and connection.

On 27th February at the Anna Centenary Library, we gathered for an evening woven with heritage, stories, and a shared love for a timeless tradition. 💛

The launch of From Bhavani, with Love and its Tamil translation Anbudan, Bhavani — written by Lakshmi V, illustrated by Zainab Tambawalla, photographed by Amar Ramesh, and beautifully translated into Tamil by Santosh Rajan — marked a heartfelt tribute to the timeless art of Jamakkalam weaving.

The evening also celebrated the launch of Bhavani Jamakkalam People’s Dhurrie of India, a stunning coffee table book photographed and written by Amar Ramesh.

The books were graciously unveiled by Thiru K. R. Nagarajan, Founder & Chairman of Ramraj Cotton, whose wish to nurture and carry forward the tradition of Jamakkalam into countless homes has been instrumental in bringing these books to life.

We were honoured to have Thiru P. Sakthivel, Master Weaver, and Prof. Thiru T. Deivasigamani, Senior Handloom Weaver from Bhavani, grace the event. The gathering was also graced by Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent of Kumaraguru Institutions, adding to the warmth and significance of the occasion.

From Bhavani, with Love is more than a book — it is an ode to culture, to the hands that weave stories into threads, and to the responsibility we hold in carrying this heritage forward. This project stands as a heartfelt effort to revive and preserve the art of Jamakkalam weaving, ensuring it continues to thrive for generations to come.

Warm Pongal wishes to everyone

As we celebrate harvest, gratitude, and togetherness, discover From Bhavani with Love — a tender story of a little girl, her grandfather, and the art of weaving that binds a community.

Available in both English and Tamil!

When little Sumi’s grandfather, a skilled weaver, is chosen to make a jamakkalam for the temple goddess, it feels like the highest honour their family has ever received. But when Thatha’s hands begin to falter and the pit loom falls silent, Sumi must find a way to help.

Through rivers of blue, the song of the loom, and the warmth of community, this lyrical picture book — written by Lakshmi V., illustrated by Zainab Tambawalla, photographed by Amar Ramesh, and translated into Tamil by Santosh Rajan — celebrates tradition, craftsmanship, and the artistry of the jamakkalam weavers of Tamil Nadu.
