🛑 Fines for Citizens, But No Accountability for Authorities? Think Again.
Look at this:
✅ Traffic Violations – Hefty Fines for You and Me:
No helmet – ₹1,000
Parking in a no-parking zone – ₹3,000
No insurance – ₹2,000
Drunk driving – ₹10,000
Driving in a no-entry zone – ₹5,000
Using mobile while driving – ₹2,000
No pollution certificate – ₹1,000
Triple-seat riding – ₹2,000
These fines are meant to improve safety. Fair enough.
But now look at this:
❌ Government Failures – No Penalty, No Accountability:
Potholes that damage vehicles or break bones – No one is responsible
Dark, unlit streets – No one is responsible
Encroached footpaths – No one is responsible
Overflowing garbage – No one is responsible
Roads dug up for months – No one is responsible
Open drains and stray cattle causing accidents – No one is responsible
When public infrastructure fails and causes injury or loss, why is no one held accountable?
🤔 Isn’t it time we ask:
Why should only citizens be penalized?
Why can’t civic bodies and government contractors face fines too?
Why don’t we have real-time complaint redressal and transparent repair timelines?
✊ What You Can Do — Let’s Move From Complaining to Action
📌 1. File a Complaint
Use https://pgportal.gov.in (Central Govt’s grievance portal)
Or use your city’s municipal complaint app (like GCC Smart in Chennai)
📌 2. Use the RTI Act
Ask your municipal body:
When will potholes in my area be repaired?
How much money was allocated and how was it spent?
📌 3. Demand Accountability on Social Media
Tag your city’s municipal body, MLAs, and MPs. Use photos, facts, and follow up.
📌 4. Join or Start a Local Civic Group
Collectively, your voice becomes harder to ignore.
🗣️ Let’s Not Just Share Outrage — Let’s Share Responsibility and Demand Reform
It's time for equal rules for citizens and the system.
We’re ready to pay fines — but are they ready to be held responsible?
If this resonates with you, share this message with awareness — and with action.
