BRAHMINS AND NEW SURGE NOVEMBER 2021
When things seemed going very good for Brahmins in the 70 s and 80s, there came a movement in Tamil Nadu that made the situation upside down. A sudden wave of hatred blew over Brahmin community and culled its physical mobility and mental ability in no time. The so called Dravidian movement was a poly to get rid of the Brahmin community by cheap and unethical ways and manner.
The Dravidian leaders created a picture filled with false data that helped them to succeed in their plan. They made the non-brahmins to believe that Brahmins are wicked and cunning people. The speeches and writings of the Dravidian leaders were full of spleen, malice and venom focused on Brahmins. It poured hatred unlimited on Brahmins.
By the sustained and continuous acts of such unexpected happenings, Brahmins were thrown out of their peaceful happy life. Brahmins were humiliated, shamed, shunned and disgraced. Physical atrocious acts like cutting the turfs and mocking the ladies were fun and entertainments for the hooligans and ruffians of the streets.
Brahmins had to leave the Agraharams –their dwelling place for long- and seek jobs and homes elsewhere in other states in large number. The remaining people, who preferred to stay in Tamil Nadu learnt to live in fear and helplessness. The pride to be a Brahmin in Tamil Nadu suddenly turned into a curse to live there. Every day they had to face an unpredicted ordeal.
The Government of that day was a silent spectator or indifferent to the core. The situation was slipping from bad to worse day by day. Before things turned unbearable and pathetic something should be done by somebody. But who will do what?
The long held vigour, valour and wisdom of Brahmins rose to the ground and emerged as a united force. A cross section of Brahmins, highly educated, considerably rich, middle class working people and poor but energetic youth that included a lot of ladies all joined together, forgetting their sect and language to form an association to face the challenge. The association was the great Tambras.
Tambras was not a mere committee or association of people. It was a force to reckon and a faith to cherish. Tambras took the fight to the challenger’s field and was ready to face what may come. Branches were opened not only in all the towns and cities but in every village, where at least a hundred Brahmins lived.
Regular meetings were organised and leaders of great orations toured all over the state and guided the locals. Plans were charted to meet the atrocious acts of hooligans and the public awareness was kindled. Dravidian leaders understood the surge that Tambrss created among the Brahmins community. They came to know that Brahmins could not be driven away as they wished and planed
It was an irony that an association like Tambras, fell from its strength and unfolded to groups. The vanity. Ego and incoherence, all played a role and now Tambras is away from youth and unknown to a large people when the Brahmin hatred is again in full form in social media like Facebook etc.
Happily the young Brahmins of today both girls and boys are well aware of the challenge. Not preferring to join any association they take the acts that needed. Their replies in face book are apt, sharp and to the point.
We are glad of the new surge of Brahmins with a rider. They should never cross the limit of decency and never forget that a Brahmin will be a Brahmin always what ever happen around.
