An IMF mission held a formal kick-off meeting with Pakistan’s economic team to review the implementation of a USD 7 billion loan and a USD 1.1 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility, according to a media report on Tuesday.
It comes as the programme’s performance as of end-June 2025 — the period under review — has been mixed, the Dawn newspaper reported.
The IMF team led by Pakistan’s Mission Chief Iva Petrova met on Monday with Pakistan’s delegation headed by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
The opening session was attended by key economic stakeholders, including the State Bank of Pakistan governor, the finance secretary and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman.
The mission will remain in Pakistan for almost two weeks and review the implementation of the USD 7 billion Extended Financing Facility (EFF) and the USD 1.1 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
According to the report, the programme’s performance has been mixed as of end-June 2025, and the start of the next review period, ending in December this year, has also been off the mark, particularly in revenue collection.

E-Arrival Card facility will be available for foreign travellers at the Delhi airport from October 1, a system that will allow international passengers to fill out their arrival information online replacing the manual paper-based cards.
Delhi airport operator DIAL, in a release, on Tuesday said the facility will ease the arrival process for travellers, improve efficiency, reduce queues, and support the airport’s sustainability goals by cutting down paper usage.
The facility will be launched under the aegis of the Bureau of Immigration. Similar facilities are available at airports in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia, according to the release.
“The new system allows international passengers to fill out their arrival information online through a seamless digital platform, eliminating the need for manual paper-based cards at the airport,” Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) said.
Travellers can fill out the form up to three days before their arrival.

The world’s major cities are now experiencing a quarter more very hot days every year on average than they did three decades ago, according to a new analysis published on Tuesday.
Researchers at the UK-based International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) examined temperature data from 43 key cities, including the 40 most populous capitals, dating back to 1994.
They found that the number of days above 35 degrees Celsius (very hot days) in these cities rose by 26 per cent over the 31-year period, climbing from an average of 1,062 annually between 1994 and 2003 to 1,335 between 2015 and 2024.
Delhi, one of the cities where the population has grown by at least half since 2013, is among those facing worsening heat stress.
The analysis warns that residents of informal settlements in cities such as Delhi are particularly vulnerable to sustained high temperatures because of poor housing and infrastructure.

General Officer Commanding-in-chief, Northern Commander, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma visited different forward areas in the Union Territory of Ladakh to review the operational preparedness, the army has said.
The army’s northern commander, who reached Leh on September 27, praised the high morale and steadfast commitment of the deployed troops.
“Lt Gen Pratik Sharma visited Siachen Brigade, Units deployed in Eastern Ladakh and the Karakoram Pass to review operational preparedness, praising the high morale and steadfast commitment of all ranks,” army’s northern command said in a post on X late Monday night.
It said the commander interacted with National Flag Quiz winners at Siachen Base Camp, appreciating their national spirit and dedication.
He also flagged a mountaineering expedition to a very challenging peak over 7000 metres at Siachen Base Camp, commending them for their indomitable spirit and setting a new benchmark in mountaineering, the army said.
On September 27, Lt Gen Sharma called on Ladakh Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta and discussed the current situation in violence-hit Leh town.

Canada on Monday said it has listed the Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity for creating a “climate of fear and intimidation”. “Acts of violence and terror have no place in Canada, especially those that target specific communities to create a climate of fear and intimidation,” an official statement said. The development comes more than a week after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his Canadian counterpart Nathalie Drouin held wide-ranging talks in New Delhi.
During their talks, the two sides had agreed to adopt a collaborative approach towards a new chapter in bilateral ties, including working closely to combat terrorism and transnational crimes.
“Specific communities have been targeted for terror, violence and intimidation by the Bishnoi Gang. Listing this group of criminal terrorists gives us more powerful and effective tools to confront and put a stop to their crimes,” Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said on Monday.
With the addition of the Bishnoi Gang, there are now 88 terrorist entities listed under the Criminal Code in Canada.

Google’s YouTube has agreed to pay USD 24.5 million to settle a lawsuit by President Donald Trump over his 2021 account suspension following the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.
According to documents filed in federal court in California, USD 22 million of the settlement will be contributed to the Trust for the National Mall and the rest will go to other plaintiffs, including the American Conservative Union.
Google is the latest big tech company to settle lawsuits brought by Trump. In January, Meta Platforms agreed to pay USD 25 million to settle a lawsuit over his 2021 suspension from Facebook. Elon Musk’s X agreed to settle a similar lawsuit brought against the company then known as Twitter for USD 10 million.
The settlement does not constitute an admission of liability, the filing says. Google confirmed the settlement but declined to comment beyond it.

The foreign ministers of North Korea and China agreed to deepen bilateral ties and resist hegemonism, a likely reference to their pushbacks against the United States.
Their meeting in Beijing on Sunday came about three weeks after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping held their first summit in more than six years and pledged mutual support and enhanced cooperation.
Kim and Xi earlier attended a massive Beijing military parade marking the end of the World War II, with other world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The joint appearance of Kim, Xi and Putin, the first of its kind, displayed a potential three-way unity against the United States, though it’s unclear how far China would go in such an anti-US partnership.
In a meeting with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui cited Kim as saying that further bolstering ties with China is North Korea’s unwavering position.
Choe expressed an intent to deepen and develop friendly ties with China in line with the spirits of Kim-Xi summit, the North’s Korean Central News Agency reported Monday.
Wang said China maintains a firm position that it intends to solidify bilateral ties, saying it’s necessary to boost strategic communications and exchanges, KCNA said.

US President Donald Trump has said Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir back his plan to end the Gaza conflict “100 per cent”, as he listed them among the world leaders “very much involved” in the negotiations on the issue.
“This afternoon after extensive consultation with our friends and partners throughout the region, I’m formally releasing our principles for peace, which people have really liked,” Trump said at a joint news conference with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House on Monday.
“These are done in total consideration and working with the nations that we’re talking about. All of these nations have made contributions to those suggestions. I want to thank the leaders of many Arab and Muslim nations for their tremendous support in developing the proposal along with many of our allies in Europe,” he said.
Trump then went on to thank the world leaders with whom he had “meetings and dialogue” on Gaza, including Pakistan.
“And I want to just say that my meetings and dialogue that we had with so many countries, Saudi Arabia as an example, the King is a phenomenal person. The Emir of Qatar, who is incredible…UAE, and that’s MBZ and ABZ,” Trump said, referring to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
