The Shawshank Redemption (1994) – Movie Synopsis:

The Shawshank Redemption is a powerful drama film directed by Frank Darabont, based on the novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King.

Plot Summary:

In 1947, Andy Dufresne, a quiet and intelligent banker, is sentenced to two consecutive life terms at Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murder of his wife and her lover—crimes he insists he didn’t commit. Despite the harsh realities of prison life, Andy maintains his dignity and hope.

Inside Shawshank, he befriends Ellis “Red” Redding, a long-time inmate known for procuring contraband. Over the years, Andy uses his financial skills to help prison guards with their taxes and eventually assists the corrupt Warden Norton in laundering money.

While enduring abuse and hardships, Andy quietly plots his escape. After 19 years, he executes a brilliant plan: he escapes through a tunnel he had secretly dug with a rock hammer, covered by a poster of Rita Hayworth and later other actresses. He exposes the warden’s corruption to the authorities before fleeing to Zihuatanejo, a coastal town in Mexico.

The film ends on a hopeful note, with Red—paroled after 40 years—following clues Andy left behind, ultimately reuniting with his friend in freedom.

"I Am Legend" (2007) – Movie Synopsis:

Set in a post-apocalyptic New York City, "I Am Legend" follows Dr. Robert Neville (played by Will Smith), a brilliant scientist who is seemingly the last human survivor after a man-made virus, originally created as a cure for cancer, wipes out most of humanity in 2009.

Plot Summary:
The virus mutates and kills the majority of the world’s population. A small portion becomes Darkseekers — aggressive, nocturnal, zombie-like mutants highly sensitive to sunlight.

Neville is immune to the virus. He lives alone with his dog Sam and spends his days searching for a cure, sending daily radio messages to find other survivors, and avoiding the Darkseekers at night.

Haunted by memories of losing his wife and daughter during the evacuation of Manhattan, Neville struggles with isolation and trauma.

He captures infected subjects to test potential cures using his own immune blood, but his efforts repeatedly fail.

After a tragic confrontation with the Darkseekers leads to Sam's death, Neville is driven to a breaking point.

Just as he's about to lose hope, Neville encounters two survivors, Anna and a young boy named Ethan, who claim to be heading to a safe survivor colony.

In the climax, Neville discovers that his latest serum shows promise. As the Darkseekers breach his lab, he sacrifices himself to ensure Anna and Ethan escape with the cure.

Ending:
In the theatrical ending, Neville dies heroically, and Anna delivers the cure to the survivor colony, giving hope for humanity’s future.

(Note: A director’s cut alternate ending reveals the Darkseekers have intelligence and emotions, and Neville survives after realizing he was the real "monster" in their eyes.)

Jamal Malik, an 18-year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. To everyone’s surprise, he keeps answering each question correctly, advancing toward the grand prize of 20 million rupees.

As he is about to answer the final question, Jamal is arrested on suspicion of cheating. Ultimately, Jamal returns to the show to answer the final question—not for money, but in the hope that Latika, watching from somewhere, will find him again.

American Psycho 2000

***American Psycho*** is a psychological thriller novel by Bret Easton Ellis (1991), later adapted into a cult film in 2000 starring Christian Bale.

# # # **Synopsis:**

Set in 1980s Manhattan, ***American Psycho*** follows **Patrick Bateman**, a wealthy, image-obsessed Wall Street investment banker by day and a sadistic serial killer by night. Outwardly, Bateman blends seamlessly into a world of high-status professionals obsessed with consumerism, fashion, and status. However, beneath his polished exterior lies a deeply disturbed mind.

Bateman narrates the story in a detached, clinical tone as he indulges in increasingly violent and gruesome acts—ranging from torture and murder to cannibalism—while maintaining his pristine public image. As the novel progresses, the line between reality and delusion blurs, raising questions about whether his crimes are real or imagined.

The story is a dark satire of 1980s American yuppie culture, exploring themes of identity, alienation, narcissism, and the dehumanizing effects of capitalism.
