Sir Donald Bradman holds the record of the best batting average. He made runs at an average of 99.94 - A record that is highly unlikely to break.

Bradman averaged 101.34 when he walked to bat at Oval against England in 1948 - That was his final innings for Australia.

He scored an unbeaten 173 in the previous Test and guided the Aussies to a 7-wicket win.

The Aussie great was in tremendous touch. He needed to make only four runs in order get to 7000 runs tally and also to keep his average 100.00.

Bradman was always a crowd puller and his final innings underlined his ability to entertain the crowd. Even the opposition team was cheering for him when he walked out to bat for one final time.

Eric Hollies, a leg spinner was the bowler. Bradman defended the first ball. The second ball was a Googly, the great man was undone by it and was clean bowled.

There was pin drop silence in the whole stadium. No one expected Bradman get dismissed so cheaply.

Bradman later spoke about his final innings - “ I dearly wanted to play well. Unfortunately, the thunderous welcome I received when I walked to bat made me emotional. It's a dangerous and vulnerable mindset for any batter. I didn't see the first ball. The second one was a perfect Googly and I couldn't pick that."
