unded Matrubhasa, on the auspicious day of Rath Yatra, the car festival of Lord Jagannath on 5th July, 1989. Since the past 60 years, three generations have served the society and the field of journalism with dedicated and authentic news. Matrubhasa, carries the rich legacy of the family in journalism. It is currently edited and managed by Smt. Salila Kar, wife of Late Sri. During its short span of existence it has been able to garner support and good will of the people. Matrubhasa has attracted many ambitious young men who have accepted journalism as their way of life. It was started in a tabloid size consisting of four pages in the initial years and just after four months, Matrubhasa enhanced its size to get enrolled by the government. Matrubhasa, is declared as an ‘A’ grade daily by Govt of Odisha and also been certified by Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) as ‘Big’ newspaper. This eight pages and eight columned newspaper has a lot of entertainment in its small package. Editorials are brave, constructive and full of facts & figures. The newspaper has five basic responsibilities – to survive, to provide information, to offer guidance, to entertain and to serve the public. Late Sri Bikash Kar not only shaped the family heirloom in journalism with a discerning heart and business acumen but also generated opportunities for many aspiring scribes and young politicos.
