It was truly blissful to be part of the first-ever Aama Samman Diwas, a moment that touched me deeply and will ever remain close to my heart. The atmosphere was filled with reverence, love, and gratitude for the beloved mothers of our State, who have given everything for the betterment of society while also nurturing their families with unwavering devotion. To dedicate this historic day to them felt both humbling and profoundly fulfilling.
The 10th of August has always carried a special weight in my memories. I recall it not merely as Jan Unmukti Diwas, the day we rose together against injustice, discrimination, and tyranny, but as a day sustained by the silent strength, patience, and boundless love of our beloved mothers from across the state. In those difficult times, when the voice of the people was forcibly silenced, it was the mothers who stood steadfast, their eyes glistening with tears, yet their spirits unbroken. Their sacrifices are etched in my heart forever.
As I addressed the gathering today, I was reminded that a mother is far more than the giver of life; she is the force that shapes it. She is love, sacrifice, patience, and moral strength in its purest form. The blessings of a mother illuminate our journey, and the debt we owe to her can never be repaid.
I felt a profound responsibility to thank not only the mothers in our homes but also the women leading from the front in every field, women leaders and officers, members of Self-Help Groups, the tireless Anganwadi and ASHA workers, women’s organisations advocating for rights and equality, and all those engaged in women-oriented programmes that bring strength and dignity to our society.
I have always believed that when a mother is empowered, a family becomes capable; when families are capable, the State prospers; and when the State prospers, the nation becomes stronger.
Our government will remain committed to protect and promote gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the dignity of motherhood- not merely as a duty, but as our moral promise.
As the day drew to a close, I felt immense pride in our decision to dedicate this historic date as Ama Samman Diwas. It is my earnest prayer that every citizen honours mothers not only through words, but also through action, caring for their health, protecting their dignity, and valuing their love. Our women-oriented welfare programmes have already brought smiles to the faces of many mothers, and this gives me immense satisfaction.
Today’s programme required meticulous attention, as caring for our beloved mothers demanded sensitivity, warmth, and efficiency. I am truly pleased that the concerned officials, associated members, and dedicated volunteers executed this responsibility with grace and tireless dedication.
I extend my heartiest thanks to the Hon’ble Speaker, Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, my Cabinet colleagues, Hon’ble MLAs, and dignitaries from the Government of Sikkim. My gratitude also goes to the Chief Secretary, Govt. of Sikkim, Director General of Police, Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Commissioner-cum-Secretaries, Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and all officers and staff from various departments for their unwavering support and indulgence.
A special note of appreciation goes to the Secretary, Officials, CDPOs, and the employees of the Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department, alongside the concerned line departments, our Sarathis from every nook and corner of our State, our dedicated health workers and the devoted volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the local administration, Police Department, including Traffic personnel, Special Branch, Home guards, Village guards, and all concerned officials who worked tirelessly, day and night, to ensure safety, order, smooth transportation, and the flawless ex*****on of this historic celebration.
My special thanks go to the banquet management team for their thoughtful arrangements in serving lunch to our mothers, including other guests, with utmost care, respect, and personal attention, making them feel truly honoured and cherished.
Today was more than just a commemoration; it was a heartfelt tribute to the strength, love, and sacrifices of our mothers and a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to honour them in every possible way. Salutations and gratitude to our beloved mothers from across the state, for your benign presence and blessings!
