Bagdogra Airport:
Where Regional Identity Meets Resilient Innovation
Set in the lush heart of North Bengal, the new terminal at Bagdogra Airport is more than infrastructure-it's a dialogue between nature, culture, and climate-conscious design.
Serving as a vital gateway to Darjeeling, Gangtok, and Kalimpong, the terminal is equipped to handle 1,000 passengers per hour, while rising to the challenges of its flood-prone terrain with robust mitigation strategies like culverts, retaining walls, and integrated drainage channels.
Drawing inspiration from the Himalayan foothills and Bengal's architectural heritage, the façade features vertical aluminium fins and pitched roofs that blend aesthetics with performance.
Planned as a net-zero carbon facility, the terminal embraces passive design, low-E glass, and renewable energy to significantly reduce its environmental impact-demonstrating how regional context and sustainability can shape the future of Indian infrastructure.
This isn't just an airport-it's a climate-resilient landmark rooted in place and purpose.
