HIGH COURT OF UTTARAKHAND GRANTS BAIL IN P.O.C.S.O. CASE FOR NO EVIDENCE

NAINITAL, Oct. 29, 2025 (TBINN) Uttarakhand High Court has expressed strong displeasure over the decision of a lower court to convict an accused in a P.O.C.S.O. (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Case without evidence and ordered his release on bail.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice G. Narender and Justice Alok Mahara, while hearing an appeal by the accused, Rampal, said it was not a case of insufficient evidence but an absence of evidence.
It is pertinent to mention here that Rampal, a resident of Jakhole Village in Uttarkashi District, was arrested in January 2022 for allegedly luring and sexually assaulting a minor girl.

Severe cyclonic storm Montha is likely to maintain the intensity for a period of six hours after its landfall over interior Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas including South Odisha, Meteorological Department said.
The Met Department forecast very likely light to moderate rainfall at most places in Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and heavy to very rainfall at few places till today.

Teenage Wrestler Yash*ta dug deep into her reserves of energy to overcome a gritty Kazakh opponent and clinch Girls 61kilogram Gold on a day when six Indian boxers sailed into the final to assure country of half-a-dozen medals in Youth Asian Games here today.
In an extremely keenly-contested bout, Yash*ta, aged 17, defeated Kazakhstan's Zhaidar Muktar on the basis of final point scored after the two were tied at 5-all.
Earlier, Yash*ta defeated Kyrgyzstan's Akylai Chynybaeva 6-0 in Semifinal.

Indian Wrestler Sujeet Kalkal won Gold Medal in Men's Freestyle 65 Kilogram title clash at U23 World Championships with a 10-0 victory over Uzbekistan's Umidjon Jalolov here today.
The contest lasted four minutes and 54 seconds as Referee declared Indian the winner. It was victory by superiority for Sujeet Kalkal who dominated the title clash against his Uzbek opponent.
Prior to this, Sujeet Kalkal had never won a world title but had two U23 Asian titles (2022, 2025) and one U20 Asian Championship Gold (2022).

SECOND PHASE OF S.I.R. OF ELECTORAL ROLLS ANNOUNCED IN 12 STATES & U.T.s BY ELECTION COMMISSION

NEW DELHI, Oct. 27, 2025 (TBINN) Election Commission will conduct Phase II of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union territories, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced today.
Gyanesh Kumar said the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (S.I.R.) is the ninth such exercise since Independence, with the last one happening in 2002-04.
Gyanesh Kumar also said the First Phase of S.I.R. was completed in Bihar with zero appeals.
"The Second Phase will be conducted in 12 states and Union territories. S.I.R. will ensure no eligible elector is left out and no ineligible elector is included in poll rolls," Gyabesh Kumar said at a press conference.
Voters' list clean-up exercise has been concluded in Bihar with the final list with nearly 7.42 crore electors published on September 30, 2025. Polling in the state will be held in two phases -- on November 6 and November 11, 2025 -- and the counting will take place on November 14, 2025.
Election Commission has already held two conferences with State Chief Electoral officers (C.E.O.s) to firm up the S.I.R. roll-out roadmap. Several C.E.O.s have already put the voter lists after their last S.I.R. on their websites.

Cyclone Montha is likely to bring heavy rain in several districts across West Bengal from Tuesday till Friday, I.M.D. said.
The weather system, situated over Bay of Bengal, is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday's night, India Meteorological Department (I.M.D.) said in a special bulletin.
Met advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the West Bengal's coast till Thursday.
