Radio Gham Chhaya pays heartfelt tribute to Balram Gorkha on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day. Unknown and unsung Balram Gorkha was a freedom fighter, social activist, and writer based in Dehradun. He was the right-hand man of revolutionary leader Rash Behari Bose, participating in anti-colonial activities like the Delhi Conspiracy Case. He hosted Jawaharlal Nehru and named the former No 8 Grant, Nehrugram after Nehru’s visit. We celebrate Balram Gorkha for his selfless contribution to India’s Independence. Today is World Elephant Day. Radio Gham Chhaya supports and celebrates the largest land mammals on earth. Today the elephants are facing their biggest challenge - habitat loss, poaching, human - elephant conflict leaving them most vulnerable in a world dominated completely by humans. Let us spare some thought for the elephants as the earth belongs to them as much as to us. Their right to life and habitat is as much as any human. Let us be mindful of that in all our policies, deforestation and construction of endless highways criss crossing their habitats.

Today, exactly 81 years ago to stop the World War II, on 6th August United States dropped the “ Little Boy” atomic bomb on Hiroshima. On 9th August 1945, another atomic bomb “ Fat Man” was dropped on Nagasaki. Radio Gham Chhaya remember the victims of the atomic bomb.
