There was a time when Chief Election Commissioners were handpicked by the ruling Prime Minister—no consultation, no oversight, no pretense of fairness. Just a direct appointment, rubber-stamped without question.

Now, we at least have a selection process that includes the Leader of the Opposition, yet DR S Y Quereshi suddenly finds it a “joke.” Really? The same Quraishi who was recently caught peddling blatant falsehoods about India’s most ambitious electoral reform—One Nation, One Election—during an interview with the Kathmandu Post? The irony is almost poetic.
