Press Release: Chakma Leaders Urge India To Suspend Diesel and Power Supply to Bangladesh & Take Measures To Claim Chittagong Hill Tracts / চাকমা নেতাদের বাংলাদেশে ডিজেল ও বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ স্থগিত এবং পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম দাবি করার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় পদক্ষেপ নিতে ভারতের প্রতি আহ্বান
New Delhi, 17 August 2026: The Chakma leaders of India today called upon the Government of India to suspend diesel and power supply to the Bangladesh following refusal of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India till former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and other alleged fugitive criminals, and the accused killers of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi are extradited to Bangladesh.
The Chakma leaders stated that India ought to suspend the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline under which India has committed to supplying Bangladesh with 1,80,000 metric tonnes of diesel annually through the pipeline. India had already supplied more than 30,000 tonnes of diesel to Bangladesh in March and April despite disruptions because of the West Asia conflict. India itself facing energy crisis and only on 16 August, India for the first time fixed maximum cooking gas LPG production targets for the public and private-sector refineries and upstream companies to address India’s energy vulnerability.
In addition, export from Adani's Godda coal-fired power plant from eastern Jharkhand state to Bangladesh which rose to about 2.25 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) from September to December 2025 ought to be suspended.
The Chakma leaders stated that the preconditions set by Bangladesh for visit by Prime Minister Tarique Raham are an insult to India.
The Chakma leaders also urged India to take necessary measures to ensure that historical mistake of awarding the Chittagong Hill Tracts, a non-Muslim majority area to Pakistan are addressed. The indigenous peoples of the CHT demanded to be part of India and hoisted Indian flag at Rangamati on 15 August 1947.
The Chakma leaders who demanded suspension of diesel and power supply to Bangladesh are Rasik Mohan Chakma, MLA & Member of Chakma Autonomous District Council; Prof. Gautam Chakma, President, Humanity Protection Forum; Pritimoy Chakma, Chakma Hajong Elders Forum, Arunachal Pradesh; and Suhas Chakma, Founder, Chakma Development Foundation of India.
নয়াদিল্লি, ১৭ আগস্ট ২০২৬: ভারতের চাকমা নেতারা আজকে বাংলাদেশে ডিজেল ও বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ স্থগিত করার জন্য আজ ভারতের সরকারের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন। বাংলাদেশে শেখ হাসিনা, অন্যান্য কথিত পলাতক অপরাধী এবং শহীদ শরীফ ওসমান হাদির হত্যাকাণ্ডে অভিযুক্ত হত্যাকারীদের প্রত্যর্পণ না করা পর্যন্ত ভারতে বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমানের সফর না করার সিদ্ধান্তের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে চাকমা নেতারা এই আহ্বান জানান।
চাকমা নেতারা ভারত-বাংলাদেশ ফ্রেন্ডশিপ পাইপলাইন স্থগিত করার দাবি জানান। এই পাইপলাইনের মাধ্যমে ভারত বাংলাদেশকে বছরে ১,৮০,০০০ মেট্রিক টন ডিজেল সরবরাহ করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছে। পশ্চিম এশিয়ার সংঘাতের কারণে সরবরাহে বিঘ্ন ঘটলেও মার্চ ও এপ্রিল মাসে ভারত ইতোমধ্যে বাংলাদেশকে ৩০,০০০ টনেরও বেশি ডিজেল সরবরাহ করেছে। ভারত নিজেই জ্বালানি সংকটের মুখোমুখি এবং গত ১৬ আগস্ট প্রথমবারের মতো দেশের জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তাজনিত ঝুঁকি মোকাবিলায় সরকারি ও বেসরকারি খাতের শোধনাগার এবং আপস্ট্রিম কোম্পানিগুলোর জন্য সর্বোচ্চ রান্নার গ্যাস এলপিজি উৎপাদনের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা নির্ধারণ করেছে।
এছাড়াও, পূর্ব ঝাড়খণ্ডের আদানি-র গোড্ডা কয়লাভিত্তিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র থেকে বাংলাদেশে বিদ্যুৎ রপ্তানি স্থগিত করার দাবি জানিয়েছে। ২০২৫ সালের সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে প্রায় ২.২৫ বিলিয়ন কিলোওয়াট-ঘণ্টা (kWh) এই প্রকল্প থেকে বাংলাদেশে বিদ্যুৎ রপ্তানি করা হয়েছিল।
চাকমা নেতারা বলেন, প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমানের সফরের জন্য বাংলাদেশ যে পূর্বশর্ত ভারতের জন্য অপমানজনক।
চাকমা নেতারা আরও ভারতকে পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রাম—একটি অমুসলিম সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ অঞ্চল—পাকিস্তানের কাছে হস্তান্তরের ঐতিহাসিক ভুল সংশোধনের জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার আহ্বান জানান। পার্বত্য চট্টগ্রামের আদিবাসী জনগণ ভারতের অংশ হওয়ার দাবি জানিয়েছিল এবং ১৫ আগস্ট ১৯৪৭ সালে রাঙামাটিতে ভারতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলন করেছিল।
বাংলাদেশে ডিজেল ও বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ স্থগিতের দাবি জানানোর চাকমা নেতারা হলেন—রসিক মোহন চাকমা, বিধায়ক ও চাকমা স্বায়ত্তশাসিত জেলা পরিষদের সদস্য; অধ্যাপক গৌতম চাকমা, সভাপতি, হিউম্যানিটি প্রোটেকশন ফোরাম; প্রীতিময় চাকমা, চাকমা-হাজং এল্ডার্স ফোরাম, অরুণাচল প্রদেশ; এবং সুহাস চাকমা, প্রতিষ্ঠাতা, চাকমা ডেভেলপমেন্ট ফাউন্ডেশন অব ইন্ডিয়া।
