Truth Behind the Struggle: The Legacy and Sacrifice of CCRCHAP
Since its very inception, the Central Committee for the Rights of Chakma and Hajong People (CCRCHAP) has been at the forefront of the Chakma and Hajong movement, leading the fight for justice, equality, and dignity. It is an undeniable truth that CCRCHAP has played the most crucial role in bringing the issues of our people into public awareness and administrative attention. The organisation’s history is built upon decades of dedication, sacrifice, and relentless effort. Those who were part of this journey from the very beginning know the challenges, pain, and determination it took to keep the voice of the community alive.
Today, it is unfortunate to see that certain individuals are trying to take undue credit for the work and legacy that CCRCHAP has built over years of struggle. Some organisations, newly formed or opportunistic in nature, are attempting to project themselves as the rightful leaders of the ongoing movement. This act of claiming credit for something that was nurtured by the long sacrifice, sweat, and tears of others is not only misleading but deeply disrespectful. The truth is bitter, but it cannot be hidden. History may be misinterpreted temporarily, but truth always finds its way to rise above manipulation.
The movement of CCRCHAP was never about fame or recognition. It was about standing up for the community that has long been marginalized and neglected. It was the collective effort of many unknown faces, the volunteers, the supporters, the financial contributors, and the backbenchers who gave their everything to sustain the struggle. They provided moral and financial support when no one else dared to. It was their silent contribution that became the strength of the organisation. Forgetting them now and glorifying oneself through titles such as “Chairman” or “Co-chairman” in other organisations is an insult to the true spirit of sacrifice.
Over the years, internal differences and factionalism may have emerged within the community and even within the organisation. But that does not give anyone the right to come forward and claim the credit of CCRCHAP’s long-standing efforts. The existence of factions is not a weakness; it is a part of every democratic movement. What matters is the foundation, and that foundation was laid by CCRCHAP through vision, discipline, and unwavering dedication to the cause of the Chakma and Hajong people.
If any organisation or joint committee truly wishes to lead the Chakma and Hajong movement today, it must do so with honesty, unity, and selflessness. Leadership is not about positions or titles; it is about accountability and service. A genuine leader works to unite people, not divide them. Therefore, those who are genuinely concerned for the welfare of the Chakma and Hajong communities should first recognize the foundation built by CCRCHAP and work alongside it instead of competing for recognition or publicity.
A crucial question also arises for those who were once active members of CCRCHAP during its early struggles. Many who were once devoted to the cause have distanced themselves over the years due to personal reasons, jobs, or other obligations. While it is understandable that life takes different turns, it is disappointing that some have not only distanced themselves but also turned against the very organisation that once gave them purpose and platform. Instead of returning to strengthen the collective effort, they have created divisions and mistrust within the community.
Such divisions have only weakened the movement that once stood united and strong. Forming new organisations in the name of development or progress has often resulted in confusion and separation among the people. True development can only come through unity, not division. When the energy of the community gets scattered among multiple groups, the original vision gets lost. Therefore, all who truly wish for the upliftment of the Chakma and Hajong people must set aside personal differences and return to one united front.
The Chakma and Hajong movements need revival, not rivalry. The time has come to return to our roots to the original spirit of unity, sacrifice, and truth that CCRCHAP was built upon.
Let us remember that no external recognition or title can ever replace genuine dedication. The path forward lies in togetherness, in respecting the foundation of our struggle, and in acknowledging every individual who has contributed to the cause. Only through collective understanding and unity can we continue the journey toward equality, dignity, and justice for every Chakma and Hajong.
