Mysterious yellow “enforcement” notices have been appearing on the doors of smoke shops in Austin, Texas, sparking confusion and concern among business owners. Security footage from early January 2026 captured a bald man posting one such notice late at night at Smoke ATX without entering the store or speaking to staff. The bold red-lettered notice claimed a “Violation of Texas SB 2024,” alleging that v***r products made in China violate federal import and labeling laws. It listed popular v**e brands, threatened seizures, fines, and full enforcement, and warned against removal.

However, the notice lacked any official markers—no agency name, inspector details, badge number, citation ID, or appeal process. Shop employees described it as intimidating and unofficial, designed to scare both businesses and customers. Management removed it and continued operations, with no subsequent action from Texas authorities. Similar postings occurred at other Austin shops, suggesting a coordinated effort using anonymous tactics to mimic official regulation.

Texas SB 2024 prohibits certain e-cigarette products, including those manufactured in or marketed as from China, with features like cartoon packaging or cannabinoid additives. Violations are misdemeanors punishable by jail time or fines. The incidents highlight how such unofficial methods blur lines between legitimate enforcement and harassment, assuming guilt without due process and eroding trust in an already challenged industry facing political scrutiny.

President Trump issued an executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to expedite the rescheduling of ma*****na from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act, targeting completion by January 2026 end.

The order mandates coordination with Health and Human Services, building on their 2023 recommendation. It emphasizes adhering to federal law while avoiding delays in rulemaking.

Rescheduling would recognize ma*****na’s accepted medical use federally, ending its 50+ year Schedule I status implying no medical value and high abuse potential. Benefits include eliminating Section 280E tax burdens on state-legal businesses, easing research barriers, and allowing prescriptions for approved cannabis-based drugs beyond current options.

However, it stops short of full legalization, maintaining federal controls. Sources report expectations for a swift process, possibly concluding early January.

Stakeholders, including lawmakers and advocates, have pushed for resolution amid ongoing delays. This move represents a potential historic shift in federal cannabis policy, reflecting evolving recognition of medical applications while preserving regulatory frameworks. The Justice Department has declined public comment on specifics.

Our feel good story for the day from — and Leading Michigan-based cannabis company MKX (), in partnership with beloved global accessories and lifestyle brand Blazy Susan () announced the launch of its breast cancer awareness campaign, immediately following up on the company’s impact initiatives during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, to perpetuate the company’s community-driven mission throughout the year. The initiative pairs product sales with meaningful donations to nonprofit organizations serving the communities in which these companies operate, demonstrating the roles ancillary and cannabis companies can play in supporting care for those affected by cancer in their communities.

A portion of every product sale will be donated to local Michigan-based breast cancer awareness charities, including Gilda’s Club, Shades of Pink Foundation, and the Chicago-based Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) predicts that one in 12 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer globally, and the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. While fighting this scourge receives plenty of attention during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the companies collectively recognize that combating breast cancer is an all-year-round fight.

The collaborative effort is the brainchild of Issam Kaoud, Chief Operations Officer of licensed Michigan-based cannabis processor 4K Processing, Inc. (4K), and MKX executives Sam, Omar, and Christian Kaoud, who have immediate family members whose lives have been detrimentally affected by cancer. In conjunction with Blazy Susan’s CEO, wunderkind Will Breakell, these dedicated, mission-driven teams have subsequently decided to make an impact by collectively fighting back against this terrible disease.

Cannabis Compounds Show Promise Against One of the Deadliest Cancers — Laboratory studies have found that a combination of THC and CBD can kill ovarian cancer cells without harming healthy cells.

Researchers are exploring whether future cancer treatments could be developed from compounds found in cannabis. In laboratory experiments, a team studying two cannabis derived chemicals found that both were able to limit the growth of ovarian cancer cells.

Although extensive testing is still needed before any patient-ready therapies can be developed, the results highlight a potential path toward new treatments for a disease that is often detected late and remains difficult to manage.

“Ovarian cancer remains one of the deadliest gynecological malignancies, characterized by late diagnosis, high recurrence rates, and limited effective treatment options,” said Dr Siyao Tong of Khon Kaen University, lead author of the article in Frontiers in Pharmacology. “Our goal is to find alternative drugs that can improve efficacy and potentially reduce toxicity, ultimately bringing new hope to patients facing this challenging disease.”

Will the Catalyst win against the DCC inevitably spur other industry operators to follow suit and file cases against METRC and other state-run cannabis programs?

Will this lead to further overregulation or, ideally, the dissolution of seed-to-sale tracking as the White House seeks to reschedule cannabis and the feds aim to solve the problem of divergent h**p and ma*****na programs as well as FDA programs approvals and more direct supervision of consumable cannabis products?

16/12/2025

Catalyst scored its biggest victory yet. An Orange County Superior Court judge ruled that the DCC has NOT complied with California’s tracking requirements under Prop 64.

The court found that:

    •    The METRC system does not automatically flag suspicious activity

    •    Prop 64 requires such automatic detection

    •    The state’s implementation does not meet statutory obligations

This ruling is the strongest judicial rebuke the DCC has ever faced and confirms what operators have complained about for years: California built a system that collects data — but doesn’t use it to regulate the market.

In an industry where diversion, tax pressure, and illicit competition are still rampant, that failure has real consequences.

This is not just Catalyst versus the state.

This is about whether California is living up to the regulatory framework voters approved — or whether the state has been asleep at the wheel while compliant operators struggle to survive against a massive illicit market.

The appellate court’s published reversal, the December 2025 trial court ruling, and the upcoming 2026 compliance hearing collectively represent one of the most important legal sequences in California’s cannabis history.

If Catalyst succeeds, California could finally be forced to implement the enforcement infrastructure the industry was promised — and paid for — nearly a decade ago.

This case has the potential to set the regulatory tone for years to come. We’ll continue following every development as it unfolds.

Dr. Mark with the TLDR quote of the day: “Moving a plant that people can grow themselves to Schedule III is absolutely fu***ng ridiculous and will fail all day long if patients need to rely on a doctor’s prescription, sorry doc, to get Schedule III meds grown by an MSO at Walgreens. It just ain’t gonna happen. The trap market is gonna win all day.”
