Soon, so many oga's will be settling their boyi and setting them free to go start and stand on their own.
But what some people do not know is that, most of these oga's are usually not happy that their boyi is leaving them, most of them don't want you to outgrow them. I'll come back to this.
Let me explain what boi is.
This oga and boyi practice is mostly common with the igbos. A kind of Ancient master/slave practice, but the difference is that in boyi practice, it is a voluntary something and an agreement is reached at the initial start, unlike in slavery where the slave is b0ught at a price.
Now like I said, the igbos practice this as a way of helping one another, especially people from a poor home. So many igbo wealthy Millionaires and Billionaires would not have been known today if not for this boyi boyi practice. This practice makes a wealthy Man out of a wretched man. It makes Men out of Boys.
Most families when they know they can't train all their sons in school, they focus on their girls and send their sons to go and do boyi for someone. Usually, an agreement is reached, the oga will tell the boys family how many years their son will serve him before he will settle and free him to start his own. Most times it run 5to10 years. If the family accepts to the oga's terms, they will write and seal it with kola nuts and Hot drink. Then the boy will now go and live and start serving his oga.
He will be taught the secrets of the oga's business and everything he needs to know about the business. He will live With his oga and must obey all his rules.
Now, back to the main point. This boyi will serve his oga till the years reached in the agreement elapse. Some w!cked oga's will still insist they do extra one year with them before honoring the initial agreement. Some of them, before a year or two to finish their serving, their oga's will put allegations on them that they stole from them and use that opportunity to discharge them without settling them. Some Ev!l ones k!ll their boyi boyi sef.
Now, some of them who wants to play good before the community will actually settle their boyi, but they sometimes, take the money they want to use for the settlement to ev!l shrines and curse the money before handing it over to the boy, since the settlement is usually done in cash before both families. Everyone will be a witness that he settled you with so so amount of money and he will be hailed as a good Man.
Some will even rent a shop for you to start with, but will first of all, work on that shop not to yield fruit. Out of excitement of being on your own and becoming your own oga, you'll stock the shop up with the money your oga settled you with, first you'll notice that all your customers who used to buy and pay cash when you were still serving, will start buying credit from you and before you know it, the shop will be empty.
Some people go as far as selling their lands to continue business, but it'll also swallow the money and you won't be able to account for it.
Next thing, the person will either go back to the village to look for something else to do, or with sh@me return back to his oga, but this time, not as boyi, but onye oso Ahia 😔
So, what I'm saying is that, as you are settled, don't use the money immediately. Go for spiritual cleansing, cleanse your first shop, work on the money before investing it, to avoid had I know 😔
