Supreme Court Orders Removal of All Stray Dogs from Delhi Streets 🚨
In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court of India has directed the Delhi government and municipal bodies to relocate all stray dogs to shelters within 8 weeks, citing an “extremely grim” public safety situation.
📌 Six key takeaways from the SC order:
1. Delhi Govt, MCD, NDMC to pick up dogs from all areas, especially vulnerable ones, without compromise.
2. Maintain records of all captured dogs; none to be released.
3. Create dog shelters/pounds across Delhi within 8 weeks.
4. Start shelters for 5,000 dogs in 6–8 weeks.
5. Detain dogs in CCTV-monitored pounds; no removal allowed.
5. Dogs involved in bites to be captured, sterilised.
6. Resistance will face contempt; the dog to be captured, immunised, not released.
The directive comes amid alarming data showing over 2,000 daily dog bite cases in Delhi.
