US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran; Tehran Threatens ‘Severe Punishment’

The United States has launched a fresh wave of military strikes on Iranian targets, with President Donald Trump warning Tehran that any retaliation would be met with an even more powerful response. US Central Command said the strikes were aimed at Iranian military capabilities linked to threats against commercial shipping and American forces in the region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has responded with a threat of “severe punishment,” warning that the United States would regret its latest attacks. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing in the Supreme Court in the case concerning BJP minister Vijay Shah’s controversial remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, said the minister’s comments were “definitely unfortunate.”

Mehta, however, suggested that Shah may have intended to praise the Army officer but failed to articulate his words properly and “ended up saying something else.”

Clarifying that it was his personal view and not the Madhya Pradesh government’s official stand, Mehta said he was not defending Shah’s remarks.

The Supreme Court, however, strongly criticised the minister, with the Chief Justice observing that the remarks were “most unfortunate” and that Shah appeared to show no sense of repentance.

A prominent Kerala-based cleric has sparked controversy with remarks suggesting that women should remain confined to their homes, claiming their presence at public events could lead to “great destruction”, PTI reported.

Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar, 95, general secretary of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, made the comments days after a prominent Sunni-Shafi scholars’ body in the state reportedly directed that women should not share stages with men or appear alongside them in public spaces.

The remarks triggered sharp criticism from opposition parties, including the CPI(M) and BJP, which described them as “derogatory” and reflective of “medieval seclusion.”

Delhi: A 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly r***d by a bus driver and conductor inside a sleeper bus after she was offered a lift to Noida, police said on Monday.

The incident reportedly took place near Kashmere Gate ISBT on the night of August 4. Police have arrested the driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep, in connection with the case.

The sleeper bus has been seized and sent for forensic examination. DCP North Niharika Bhatt confirmed that the crime had taken place and that both accused had been arrested. Further investigation is underway.
