Four UN human rights experts and expert groups have called on China and Vietnam, in separate joint communications, to account for the questionable circumstances surrounding the detention, disappearance, and reported death of Tulku Hungkar Dorje—a locally prominent religious leader from Tibet—in Vietnam in March this year. His case has sparked outcries among his followers and others around the world. The experts released their communications following the expiry of the 60-day period allotted for the two governments to respond to these serious allegations.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are a significant component of the weaponry in the arsenal of any country’s modern warfare, as could be seen in the recent and ongoing armed conflicts, and China has opened a new, high-altitude testing base for it in Tibet as its border dispute with India remains far from being resolved amicably any time soon. Although the facility is touted as being meant for civilian purposes, its military applicability is all too obvious.
