What you’re seeing is an actual surgery… and the surgeon is an ant.

A new study found that Florida carpenter ants can save injured colony members by choosing the right treatment based on the type of wound.

If the injury is lower on the leg, the ants clean and lick the wound, increasing survival from about 15% to 75%.

But if the injury is higher up the leg, where more muscles are involved, they do something even more incredible: they amputate the entire leg. The procedure takes around 40 minutes and boosts survival from just 20% to nearly 90%.

It’s the only known case of an animal diagnosing a wound and selecting the correct treatment — besides humans.

Nature keeps getting harder to believe.

🐸 The caecilian isn't a snake either—it's a limbless amphibian that's more closely related to frogs.

🐛 And the Elephant Hawk-moth caterpillar has one of the best disguises in nature. When threatened, it hides its head and displays giant fake snake eyes to scare away predators.

Millions of years of evolution have created some incredible imposters.
